At times after working for long a comparatively small thing may generate big problems. I am suggesting you buy a new thermostat and fit it , then properly bleed the cooling system. If the engine still overheats, check the radiator,. If the radiator is clogged you may need to take it for cleaning or replace the radiator..And may also need to check Radiator cowling or shroud ,if it's not intact that's if broken it may reduce the Volume of air drawn through the radiator this in turn leads to overheating .Finally check if the fan clutch is in good working condition ,if it is loose it cannot 'pull ' enough air through the radiator to sustain proper cooling of the coolant hence overheating. If this doesn't work ,dismantle the engine and take it for pressure test to ascertain if there is any cracks between the the piston bores and the coolant channels in the engine block..Also do a straightness tests on both surfaces of the engine block.

You can also check the radiator cap or expansion Tank cap.

SOURCE: lower intake manifold gasket leaking 02 Olds Silhouette

This is basicly a very time consuming job rather than a physically hard one to complete. In order to replace the gasket you must remove the intake plenum, throttle body, and misc. vacuum hoses. The wiring harness connections must also be disconnected. Finally the intake manifold is exposed. The bolts holding the manifold to the block are removed exposing the leaking gasket. After removing the push rods and placing them in the correct order to be replaced the gasket and sealants can be removed. Finally replace everything in reverse order. Be sure to consult a GM manual for correct bolt torch specs. The correct specs for the manifold bolts usually come with the gasket. Make sure to change your oil a few times after this job in case any coolant entered the block. Also, change the thermostat and the oil seal on the distributor half shaft cap while you have everything off. Good Luck

SOURCE: 1992 Toyota Previa van,Oil dripping onto exhaust manifold, replace head gasket? need a free manual!

The toyota previa uses a formed silicone gasket for the valve cover and the cover is held in place by metric shoulder bolts ( 10mm). The valve gasket leaks because you can't get enough preload on the bolts to re-seat the old gasket when it gets old and shrinks. The shoulder bolts only allow you to tighten the gasket enough to seat the shoulder on the bolt. If you continue to torque down the suspected bolts, you will snap the bolt off ( don't ask me how I know this ). You can either 1.)replace the old gasket with a new one or 2.) remove the existing bolts around the leak area and put in new metric bolts that do not have a shoulder. You may want to put in a small sleeve into the existing bolt hole but shorter than the thickness of the valve cover to account for the smaller diameter bolt. You can now torque down the bolt and get enough preload to seal the valve cover without removing the old gasket. Make sure you use a torque wrench ( in-lbs) or be very careful not to snap these small valve cover bolts.

1982 280zx i replaced my manifold gasket and all of a sudden im having over heating problems

You're obviously referring to the intake manifold gasket, right? When you removed the manifold, did you old gasket to the replacement for size and mounting match-up? Did you have to scrape off the old gasket, and were you careful to not let any pieces of it fall into either the manifold or the head? Chances are, either the replacement gasket (OEM gasket or aftermarket?) did not match up correctly with the manifold or the head and is blocking a coolant channel, or a piece of the old gasket has lodged in the water jacket or has found its wa to the water pump and is blocking the coolant circulation. Bad result would be damage to the water pump requiring its replacement; worse result would be overheating of the engine causing failure of the head gasket and/or possible warpage of the head. If you're certain that the replacement manifold gasket was a perfect match and was placed properly during installation, you may want to drain and power-flush the cooling system, refill with water and recheck the temp. If it's OK, drain the system again and refill with prescribed mix of antifreeze and water. If you're not certain, you'll probably need to pull off the intake again and use another new gasket that exactly matches up with the water jacket ports on both the manifold and the head. Good luck.

2000 chevy venture 3.4l overheating

Have you replaced the intake manifold gaskets? These engines have a history of leaking intake manifold gaskets. Water leaks into the intake and is burned off in the cylinders. If the engine overheats enough times, you will eventually blow the head gaskets.

Start by performing a compression check to make sure you haven't blown the head gaskets. Then make sure the car is really overheating (i.e. check the temperature of the engine with a infrared thermometer (they are cheap at Harbor Freight).

If it is really overheating, and you've really changed everything else, you need to change the intake manifold gaskets. Be sure to get the improved gaskets from the parts store (they have a metal core with rubber coating).

OVER HEATING HAS ANTIFREEZE ,NEW RADITOR AND

Sounds like it could be a head gasket. Most shops will pressure test it (not expensive to test) to find out if that's the culprit. Pretty common overheating cause if you have a new radiator, thermostat and water pump.

I guess the burning question is , where is the coolant going.
Is this a 4.3 engine? How many miles does the vehicle have?
Has the intake gasket been changed?
I'm guessing a can of "Bars Leak" may cure your problem.
Let me know.

Water mixing with engine oil on 1999 Suburban. No steam out the exhaust and no signs of backpresure in the radiator. Rumor has it that the 5.7 vortec engine had problems with the intake gaskets. Have you...

5.7's had all kinds of problems with intake manifolds but it could also be a head gasket leaking. One way to check is to pull out your spark plugs and have a look at them. One of them will should be really white looking, that is the cylinder where the coolant is leaking into. A good rule of thumb (but not always true) is that if the coolant is leaking into one of the cylinders at the very front or very back of the engine, it is an intake leak. If the coolant is leaking in one of the middle cylinders, it is a head leak.
But the only way to know absolutly for sure is to pull the intake off and look for a break in the gasket, if you see that you know its the intake manifold. If you cant see any signs of leakage its probally a head problem. Another word of advice, there is an updated gasket from fellpro that lasts longer that the OEM gasket.
