If the security light is on you can try the 10 min. relearn procedure . Turn the key to run ( not start ) an leave the key on for ten min. If the light goes off in ten . min. turn the key off . Then start the vehicle . If the security light doesn't go off there is a hard fault an you will need to have it diagnosed by a repair shop that knows how .
Is the security light lit on you dash ? is it flashing ? If so turn the key to the run position an leave it on for ten min. Then if the light goes out ,turn it off for a few min. Then start the vehicle ! If it doesn't start you have other issues an will need to have the vehicle scanned for codes !
It's the security system. You'll notice when you try and start it, if the problem is happening, the security light on the dash will be blinking. The remote won't reset the security system. You have to wait the full ten minutes and it can be very annoying. I think it has something to do with the driver's seatbelt switch. There is a double wire under the seat that goes to the seat belt buckle. Mine was cut and taped back together. I think the switch in the buckle gets dirty. Try squirting some WD-40 in the buckle. Also try to not be in too much of a hurry when you jump in and start it because that's when it happens, then you're gonna be ten minutes late anyway. I just get in mine, sit down, and wait a second before I try to start it. Haven't had the problem for some time now.
Not to insult your intelligence but is the shifter all the way in park? You may have an issue with linkage too. Or ignition switch needs replacement, (maxima's are also known for ignition replacement)
Other wise disconnect your car battery for ten min, just leave it sit, after ten min put ur battery cable back on, try ur key again.if you have a spare key work with the drivers door a little with locking and unlocking
Since the parts are no longer avail for this car to fix this issue more than likely why not just bypass the security system altogether. Here is how you do that. Click HERE
Try unhooking your battery for about ten mins. This might reset your security system. You might also try locking all the doors and then unlocking with the key.
if security light is flashing turn ignition switch to run position but do not try to start light will be flashing let vehicle sit for about ten or fifteen mins. light will stop flashing when it does start car you have just reset security system
the process takes about thirty minutes. in three ten minute key cycles. here is how you do it . make sure that the battery is fully charged. step on parking brake pedal and leave it down this will keep the head lights off. turn the key and try to start it then leave it in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. you will see the security light on. after the ten minutes the light will go off then turn the key to the start position. turn the key all the way back to the off position and count to three. then try to start it and leave the key in the on position for another ten minutes till the security light goes out. you have to do this same process three times to reset the security system. sometimes you get lucky and it will start after the first ten minute cycle.
Here is what you do. make sure the battery is fully charged cause you dont want it to go dead during this process or it wont work. step down on your parking brake pedal and leave it down. this will keep the headlights off during the process so the battery wont go dead. turn the ignition key like you were going to start the car then leave the key in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. during the ten minutes you will see the anti theft or security light flashing or the display in the instrument cluster. when the ten minutes are up the security light will go out. once the light goes out attempt to start the car. if it doesnt start turn the key all the way back to the off position count to three then attempt to start the car then leave the key in the on position another ten minutes till the light stops flashing again. sometimes it takes up to three ten minute cycles to reset the antitheft system. so basically you do the same thing three times leaving the key in the on position for ten minutes each time so it will take approximately thirty minutes. sometimes it will work on the first try though.
reprogam security key by turning key on,momentarily engage starter, leave key on for ten min(security light will go off) repeat 3 or more times, after third time attempt to start within 5 seconds of cycling key
