2.0 ltr diesel 2005 classic glow plug heater indication warning lamp flashing with engine running
The Glow plug coming on, and the car going into limp home mode, is a default safety feature that occurs when the engine management system picks up any kind error message from the many sensors now used on the car.
I've found the glow plug light problem with my Jag, it was the air filter. Apparently Jaguar servicing change it every 3rd service (not a good idea). I changed mine, it is a new car. I had the EPR valve cleaned and a major diagnostic carried out by a local garage (who had the Jag diagnostic software). It turns out I also need a new Turbo; the actuator is sticking (£759.00 plus 3 hours labour). But hey, the main limp home mode problem is fixed and I can drive my Jag confident it will accelerate when press the gas.
My 53 plate 2l diesel has a problem when within the 1st 3 mile the flow plug light will flash and engine cuts out no coughing or splutering just cuts out i pull over and it starts fine if im on a lo ng trip it never happens, to date only on short trips when engine is cool , HELP
Electronic EGR valve
Hi, had this happen on the M11 to Cambridge ,loss of power and flashing glow plug.Took it too Nene Jaguar in Peterborough and he found a solit pipe to the turbo front left corner, about a 2" pipe with a long slice in it.£130.00 later and good to go. I still have the frost light on but he said this is a faulty sensor and also to improve the starting it needs an ECU flash. I thought my Ducati,s where trouble!!!

I had the flashing heater light when using more than normal power. This reset if engine stopped but eventually engine light came on. Thought it sounded like a fuel pressure problem so changed fuel filter (a cheap repair and you can do it your self). Problem solved. No flashing heater light and turbo back in action. After about three cold to hot cycles the engine light will reset as long as there are no other faults. If this does not solve the problem go to garage that can check the computer.
Oh jesus, I thought it was just me that has this problem!! My car is now doing it 5 or 6 times a day and yesterday it overheated and went into the red on the temp gauge. Don't know if its related but they have changed the thermostat today. All the fans are working fine so it's not a sensor or anything like that. If this does rectify it, I'll let you know. Either that or my car is a heap of s--t. It's a 2006, 2 litre estate.
Why cant we just have a simple system that doesnt need all these sensors? My x type 2.2 diesel has lights coming on and off, I get the limp home bit until I restart the car, The best bit is I have been told it is likely to be a sensor fault???not actually much wrong with the car itself, I t runs beautifully and is the most comfortable car I have ever owned, but I am thinking of getting shot of it just because I cant be doing with the hassle much longer, and the cost too, shame its a good car spoiled with stupid electronics.
Sorry Its not a solution, but at least we know were not alone out there, cheers

I have the same problem with the glow plug light and while the light is on the car just wont rev out properly, as soon as i turn the ignition off and start it up again it runs perfect again until the next time but seems to be becoming more freqent now almost daily. The car is an x type xs model 2005, if any idea what it could be i would be very greatful.
2005 X type Jaguar 2.0ltr d sport. Just lately, shortly after starting a journey, the glow plug light comes on whilst accelerating, this is accompanied by a loss in power. I rectify it by switching off the engine and restarting, although it seems to be happening more frequently lately, sometimes twice in succession. Any Ideas?
I have the same problem on a X Type 2.0D Sport 2005 version with 44km.
Only happened the once will contact again if it returns.
On restart, once I waited for the glow light to extinguish before starting it did not happen.
Is it related to trying to start the diesel too quickly?
i have the car in a garage at the moment with the same fault.
be warned, the problem gets worse ,the engine will cut out , as you are driving ,it did thes about 3 times on the motorway in just one day !!! , ,having to start the car , at 80 can't do it much good?
A previouse garage said it was a Knock sensor , i had one fitted , so it was not that, there is also a harness, thingy !!.that can also cause this fault .
but i will defo post the fault ,once the garage finds the fault
regards
