A lot depends on the location of the water leak.  If you have checked all the hoses, clamps, radiator and cap.  There isn't a lot left. The water pump is on the front of the engine under the timing belt shroud.  This would also be a good time to replace the drive belts, timing belt, any soft hoses and anything else that's iffy.

Losing antifreeze

Please tell us you at least are looking for the location
of the leak

I would stop using it at the first sign of any leak & repair myself

If you can't do that --then get to a repair shop

I am about to have my water pump changed on my 1996 Nissan Maxima. If there is water in my oil what other problem could it be beside the water pump? Thanks, Sandie

I just had to changed my water pump today. Its not the difficult for person handy with tools and a common sense demeanor for cars. Unfortunately, if its not the water pump, then its most likely the Head Gasket.

Do you see water with antifreeze dripping under your cars motor near the passenger front tire? "If so, then its most likely your Water Pump Problem"

If not, then its your head gasket!

Mail.comI am leaking antifreeze. The Nissan dealer checked it and said it was the water pump. Where is the water pump located exactly? Thanks

The water pump is part of the timing belt assembly, on the front of the engine, so it is labor intensive to replace. Most will recommend you replace the timing belt, idler pulleys, timing belt tensioner and seals at the same time, so you don't have to do the job twice. Most reputable shops will always replace the water pump when they perform a timing belt replacement package, again so you don't have to do the job twice. Hope this helps. Have a nice weekend :O)

Leaking antifreeze at bottom of engine not from radiator. could this b water pump?

It could be the water pump leaking or it could be a hose. You can try to fill up the radiator (not trying to spill any water ) and squeeze the upper or lower radiator hose. You might hear or see where it is leaking from.

My 1997 Nissan Maxima 4 door sedan is leaking coolant/anti-freeze. What could be the source of this leak? We fill it up and after several days it is out and the engine gauge is running hot.

could be the water pump. where is the coolant coming from?? behind the a/c compresor?? if so, you need a new water pump. need to know location of the leak or at least general location if you can not get exact.

1996 nissan maxima gle, 3.0L auto. There is Coolant leaking from the front of engine behind a/c compressor as best as i can tell. I know the engine has an enternal water pump, what is the best way to tell...

You will have to see it. There are dentist type mirrors available in auto parts strore that will allow for you to see it, PLEASE do this when the engine is relatively cool. e.g. start-up. The coolant generally travels straight down, although this is not always the case it is a good indication as to the locatioon of the leak. It is impossible for the coolant to leak from between the block and pan. It appears so as the coolant travels along the rim of the oil pan on its way to the ground. If you can get a thin cardboard strips in there you can tell where the wet starts and stops

Leaking antifreeze

you need a water pump. water pump is inside the timing chain area/internal. the coolant is leaking out of a small hole behind the a/c compressor. water pump WILL fix it.

Can over heat cause by failure of water pump?

water pump in 03 max is internal inside the timing chain area. worry free, unless you have coolant leaking behind the a/c compressor bracket and down onto the ground. thats how you know if pump went. and yes, you can overheat a car if water pump fails, but maxima water pumps are pretty bullet proof, that;s why they are iternal
