My 1999 bmw 528i wont start or jump start. Just before I shut down engine, the battery warning light came on. Just replaced the starter, still the same. According to Kragen who tested the old starter, it was bad. Is there some kind of reset button that I need to do after installation?
Yeh go back to Kragen and say are you taking the ****, reset button who told you that. it must be next to the kerfuffle valve. and operated by the **** behind the peddle. or the nut behind the wheel. how to start a car lesson one. heavy duty Power to the starter, and a good chassis earth generally through the engine block. a good charge in the battery. and a switched live to the low tension circuit on the solenoid of the starter motor via ignition switch/key. if all those are fine it should work.......
so what your telling me is, that the last time you turned your engine off the battery warning was showing whilst the engine was running? when you turned off the engine it would not restart or jump start. you took it to a garage and he tested the starter motor for you. and said it was inoperable. i think i would be checking the wiring at the starter motor still, the heavy wire that comes from the battery. you may find that the alternator tags onto the same wire to charge the battery hence your battery light being on. as for a reset button never heard of one other than inertia fuel shut off. make sure you have a good earth on the engine to the chassis. try a jump lead from the engine block to the body to simulate an earth. there are lots of scenarios of why a vehicle wont start even immobilizer issues. but provided that the main battery cable to the starter is good and the battery is in good condition, you have a good earth on the engine block for the starter and you are getting a switched live to the small wire on the solenoid of the starter then it will crank the engine. if you have all of these and no switched feed to the solenoid then try putting a live feed to it your self manually. let me know when you have tried all this and then possibly look into other area.

Answer is not clear. What do ****'s mean? No one told me about the reset button, I'm just simply asking if there is one. Is the answer yes or no? I need suggestions for what else could be wrong or needs replacement. I appreciate all the help I can get.
Hi,
I Purchased a 1999 BMW 528I and all was running well until the other day... I drove an hour to work and when I was leaving the car wouldn't start..it cranked but wouldn't turn over.
I brought it back to the place I purchased it from and they seem to think the EWS needs to be replaced.. I have heard that it may just need to be aligned but I am not sure and i am kind of afraid to suggest that to them.
They seemed kind of pissy when I suggested a few things the day I brought it there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thank you
Michael
