My brake pedal was hard on my 1971 monte carlo so figured it was power booster ,changed it but still hard any ideas how much vac should be at the booster any ideas
You can only have whatever the engine vacuum is at any time. Is there vacuum to the booster check valve & is the valve working, assuming you have the old one or a new one with the new booster. Does fluid flow out all 4 corners? Are the Rubber Flex Hoses Collaped Calipers Rusted & frozen? Did you remove the master & clean out the moisture from around the piston That is where you start, then flush & on to every component in the system, if they are on the vehicle for many years You do realize brake fluid gets changed every 2 years on all vehicles or you got big problems with moisture in years to come
Power brake booster need at least 15 hgs engine vacuum.if you have massive take leak or you have high lift camshaft that will cause power brake problems.make sure power brake booster hose and check valve okay the booster check valve should not be able to blow through it.hook vacuum gauge to intake manifold vacuum port then start engine do a vacuum test make sure engine got good vacuum.

Hi Michelle, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.
This is an easy task with the correct tools.
First, pump the brakes 20 times with the key off. Next, remove the 2 nuts that hold the master cylinder in place. Next, pull the master cylinder back and out of the brake booster. Next, go inside the vehicle and on the brake pedal arm you see the brake booster rod attached to the brake pedal arm by a retainer clip. Next, remove the clip and slide the rod away from the pedal arm. Next, around the brake booster rod at the firewall you'll see 4 nuts you'll need to remove those 4 nuts then push the booster backward out of the firewall. Next, go back under the hood and pull the booster past the master cylinder. NOTE: You should have enough room to force the booster past the master cylinder. Replace the new booster and hook up the vacuum hose and your done. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website here: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/
Use a flat bladed tool (4) in order to pry the locking tab (5) on the booster out of the locking notch (3) on the mounting flange. Do this while turning the booster counterclockwise with a wrench (1) on the J 22805-01.
Notice: Do not attempt to remove the booster until pushrod is disconnected from the brake pedal.
When you press on the brake? Have your brake vacuum assist checked. It,s that bigspaceship looking thing between the brake master cylinder an firewall. good luck and be safe.
If I understand you Question correctly you would like to know what you brake booster hooks on to? Its bolted through the fire wall by four bolts you can't see those bolts from outside in the hood. They can be seen up above the brake pedal on the inside of you vehicle . The master cylinder in mounted to the brake booster. The brake booster has a Push type rod that attached to the top of your brake pedal close to the brake light switch. Good Luck
^ Turbo Cars have Lots of Vaccum, Where did you ever get this idea from. I have personally converted 10+ Turbo Buicks to Vac brakes.
Make sure the check valve is okay at the booster. but it does sound like you have a bad booster.
Also, did you change the brake pedal to a Vac brake pedal?
They are not interchangeable.
Also, you should not have drilled the plenum, you can get a vaccum block to replace the plastic one on the top of the plenum with a vac brake port.
