SOURCE: code p0700 dodge neon sxt 2003

The first thing you need to be aware of is that fault codes do not tell you exactly what is wrong with the car and never indicate specific parts have failed. Fault codes only give an indication as to what circuit or system is behaving abnormally at the time.
The fault code P0700 from your engine control module means that there are fault code(s) stored in the transmission module as well. it is not an indication of a problem in itself; it is just a flag to alert the technician that he needs to scan the transmission controller for faults.
For the couple of model years i checked, there was no valid definition for a P0731 on the neon model. If you give me the exact year of the vehicle, i can check to see if there is a definition for this code for your car, but i can tell you that being a 700 series code it is going to be related to transmission operation.
To diagnose this type of fault code is going to require access to a professional level scan tool that is capable of accessing the trans control module for fault codes and stored data. O nce the codes from the transmission are read, then there will be a manufacturer's test procedure to follow to test operation of the specific circuits and components related to that code. This again is going to require a DRB-III scan tool or equivalent to display live transmission data as well as to run the test sequences involved in diagnosing whatever code is stored there.
So, for this reason my answer to your question would be that you should take this particular problem in to a shop with the required test equipment and a technician trained in Chrysler transmission diagnostics to be looked at before attempting any kind of repairs yourself. Some things can easily be diagnosed and repaired at home in the driveway with minimal equipment; this particular type of fault is not one of them.

SOURCE: I get codes p0700 and p0740 on a dodge grand

P 0700 = EATX (Electronic Automatic Transmission Communication) Controller DTC Present. = An automatic transmission input DTC has been set in the transmission controller.
P 0740 = Torque Converter Clutch. No RPM Drop at Lockup. = Relationship between engine speed and vehicle speed indicates no torque converter clutch engagement.

Yes the Fluid and Filter Change should take care of this. However, Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth Minivans have had alot of Transmission problems over the years. Make sure that whomever changes the Transmission Fluid that they use exactly what is specified. Also, do not let any Mechanic talk you into a Superflush of the Transmission. This procedure does not change the Filter.

there is a solinoid in the transmission that shifts the trans and downshifts when stopping this is a problem you generally don't want to do your self

2006 Mitsubishi Raider. Why would I get a P0700 code and no other codes with it? On 06 Raider ?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Error code P0700 signifies that a malfunction has been detected in your vehicle's transmission controls. Most modern automobiles feature a specific control module as it relates to the vehicle's automatic transmission. This module is known as the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. What do i need to replace to fix error code p0700 on a 2002 dodge intrepid

(DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request) Translation: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure. P0700 Information Code The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM. This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes. So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it.

I hope this helps....let me know if I can assist further !!

Car does not run ,I check the code ,it is P0700

Because it is not starting, you should replace the Crankshaft sensor (above the oil filter, back of the engine)-it will cause a P0700-I have a 99 SL2, 178,000 miles

DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request)

The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it. The dealer probably saw the code P0700 and went to the TCM and pulled out the code stored there telling them the Transmission Solenoid Assembly (TSA) is bad. This is a good example of understanding what the codes actually mean. If the manual you looked at said the TCM is bad and to replace the TCM when you see a P0700, then it is wrong.
