No, that would never work. Nowadays, always use an engine from the same year, or you will run into all kinds of headache with electrical hook-ups and other modifications. Only engine of exact same size and same year-the engine computer is designed for that.
It is possible other years for a 1993 explorer might work, but not any engine manufactured after 1995. That's a whole different project. Any salvager could tell you which years interchange with the '93 model, but it's a small window. And if you change engine size, more modifications than you could imagine.
