Colum shifter jammmed in Park and ignition will not turn off jam

Shifter linkage issue

theirs a push pin opening under steering column by ignition that will allow you to turn key to off and remove it the reverse lock out tab on your selector either broke or something like a coin is jammed in it most of time a coin is jammed there

Does it go into the lock position ? Will the shifter go into the park position ? Is it a automatic transmission ?

There should be a hole in the bottom of plastic steering cover or a rubber cover that comes out . you can stick your finger up there an there is a button you push that will allow you to take out the key !

WHERE YOUR SHIFTER IS YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT APART ..MAYBE THE RUBBER BOOT IS IT THE WAY,OR THE SHIFT LOCK SELINOID WHENT BAD

Thats a chevy for ya ! Theres something weird between the shifter and the ignition. Turn the key as far as you can off, then put it in nuetrel. Start the car and it if starts, put it in park and turn the key off, if it is still stuck, keep trying .

Hi there,
try turning the wheel to the right/left while turning the key in the ignition. You have to apply some force. Your car is probably outliving its road life.

common problem with GM trucks befor 96, is the shifter on the colum?...if so that is what is keeping it fron turning off all the way, if its not in park you cant have the key. hope this helps

the battery must have sufficient amount of juice to release the key
