I have a 1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.5L that has transmission problems after the car warms up. The first time this happened, I'd been slipping around on icy streets and hit a pothole on the front right side. I drove for about 30 minutes and the transmission suddenly dropped into limp mode.
When the car is cold, for the first 15 minutes or so after starting it, the transmission shifts perfectly - no sounds, slipping, etc. I tested this by accelerating hard and also with manually shifting through all of the gears.
After the car warms up, the transmission starts to squeal, the gears slip into neutral, and the car soon drops into limp mode. Let it cool down and it's okay.
The transmission fluid looks fine and was changed a year ago.
I got the following codes from AutoZone:
P1782 - Manufacturer Control Transmission
P0732 - Gear 2 ratio incorrect
P0700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction.
Hoping it was a one time thing, I cleared the codes. The problem remained, but the CEL didn't come back on. One other thing, in limp mode the transmission still slips into neutral in 2nd and reverse and squeals in park.
I'm thinking of replacing the input sensor, since it's cheap and easy. Is there anything else I should do that's relatively cheap?
SOURCE: engine light on code p0732, p1782, p1787 and p0700 twice
P0732 Gear 2 Incorrect ratio
P1782 P/ES Circuit Out Of Self Test Range
P1787 2-1 Downshift Error
P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request) Malfunction
Here is the deal, u have some serious transmission related faults, in order to sort this out u will need to take this to the dealer, allot of testing is required to get to the bottom of this, if I had to guess I would say the trans is going to have to be overhauled.
