Airbag light we drove to Texas and my airbag light came on and won't go off !!! so how do you reset it 2004 KIA serrento!

Fix the airbag system then reset the light with a scan tool.

Usually if you pull the fuse the light will come on because the system is disabled. You may need to get the airbag module checked out.
Its fairly touchy stuff, you have to be careful not to blow the airbag by mistake when you are working on the system.

airbag light on means some DTCs stored in your airbag,

The airbag in your vehicle is an important safety device, and the airbag module ensures the proper functioning of your vehicle's air bag. If this module is not functioning properly, your airbag may not deploy during a crash. When there is a malfunction, your airbag module warning light will illuminate on your vehicle's dash. You will need to have the airbag assembly checked out by a qualified mechanic, but once that is done, you can reset the warning light and airbag module unit. If you've never done this type of job before, it should only take you 5 minutes.

1. • 1 Open the hood and loosen the retaining nut on the negative cable wire cable clamp using a socket wrench.
     
   • 2 Slide the cable clamp off the negative battery terminal.
     
   • 3 Wait 3 to 5 seconds and reconnect the battery terminal. Tighten the retaining nut using a socket wrench. Once the power is restored, the airbag module should be reset.
     
   • 4 Verify that the module has been reset by turning the ignition key to the "II" position and checking to make sure that the airbag light does not illuminate.
     

Are you sure the smell was not deer meat on the radiator?
No one can honestly say its safe to drive and that an airbag won't suddenly deploy. Best thing to do is have it scanned to see why the light is on. Most shops will have a scanner that should work for this (save you the high cost of a dealer). The light may just be on because there is crash data stored in the SRS module and it may need be replaced.

The most probable reason for the code is the battery being dead for a while, there is a capacitor in the airbag circuit to make sure the airbag can go off in a collision even if the battery disconnects itself in the process. There is a slim chance it might be something else but either way the shop should be able to tell you what the problem is, and get it fixed; sometimes, scanner reader could helpfull to know exactly what fault code is stored there. keep in mind that this isnt an OBD codes reader, this is more specific for Airbag Systems.

Also, isnt rare to know that the airbag warning light is indicating the airbag(s) may not be functionig. As it says in the manual, "Ignoring the AIRBAG warning light in your instrument panel could mean you won't have the airbags to protect you, (or your passangers), in a collision...have the airbag system checked right away". Always wear your seatbelt. On 2004 there is a light on the passanger grab bar that indicates the passanger airbag is off. This happens when a child is in the seat to protect the child from the sudden force of an airbag. It can also be fooled by a package or briefcase on the seat. This is normal. When an adult sits on the passanger side the light should go off. This information was an addition to the 2004 manual.

i have a 2006.5 kia optima and my tire pressure is 32 and as for the airbag light mine is on also and have had it in the shop now 5 times and they said its the airbag in the steering wheel the wire is not getting a good connection causing the light to come on. you can take it to a kia dealer and have the airbag code ran for around 100.00. finally found a dealer who treats me right and gave me the correct advise for the airbag as for the cost for fixing it haven't been that far yet. hope this helps

reset by code reader but you may have a problem warning lights dont come on for nothing also if you have seatbelt restraints these are connected and it may be one of those, hope its of help.

Safety-First.
Take to dealer to investigate hidden damage to sensor, etc.
