My car won;t start. it turns over, but won;t run. also none of my lights, gauges, ect. won;t go on, even when the key is on. i checked my fuses, and battery,it has no problems. please help.
I have the same problem with my 2000 Malibu. All the dash lights will flash for a while and when I park the car, it will not restart. However, I have to disagree with all the solutions I have read regarding ignition and other things. I say this because if I disconnect the battery for approximately 15 minutes, allowing the computer to reset, it will start every time. I want to know what is causing this malfunction, is it the computer or what?
Have you checked your starter. Just had this same thing happen with a 93 Chevrolet Pickup where the solienoid connection had gone bad. (wiggled) He and his friends were replacing batteries, pulled the positive lead on the starter and it got enough connection to start. Replaced it the next day doing fine.

If it cranks then it is turning over but I think you are saying it will not fire up. Either way Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals with sandpaper until you see shiny metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. Have a load test done on the battery to check for failed cell.
check the ground leg to your engine.. it runs off the neg. battery terminal. will connect to frame and engine.. pull it off, wire brush it put it back.. you radio will work, 'cause it draws much less current, and is grounded in dash.
check fuses. did this happen all of the sudden? did you or someone recently change the stereo, reason I ask this is there is a continuous power wire that connects the factory stereo to the guage panel usually a yellow wire, and if it's no longer connected or incorrectly connected then that would cause your gauges not to work
try locking your car with the key and unlocking it with the key, leave it for 30 second or so between the locking and unlocking , the car thinks some one has tampered with it
call the chevy dealership, and ask them if there has been any recalls in the past for your malibu. good-day! or if no good response, ask for the chevy recall center!
You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.
check connections from the battery to starter
if ok tap on the starter with a hammer as a helper starts the engine if it starts replace starter
before you do dose the key turn all the way forward normal starting position? reason i ask is why did you replace the ignition cyl lock?
