Service engine code indicates EGR valve.

1998 Chevrolet Lumina, 3100 V6, service engine code indicates an EGR valve problem. I installed a new EGR valve and reset the check engine light using an OBD II code reader. The light clears but after running a short while, the service engine light comes back on and again indicates that the EGR valve is faulty. What am I missing? Thanks.

The intake is probably plugged and exhaust cannot get through the passage. You could try removing the valve and cleaning it out with a piece of wire and carb cleaner.

cleaned the egr valve and replaced it also.

You could have a restriction in the egr ports. remove the valve. Plug the holes, start engine. 1 hole will be blowing out exhaust, the other will have large vacuum.

I have a 1997 chevy lumina. i had 2 coded before, po420 and po401. i changed the egr valve, and now the po420 is gone. i just replaced the egr tube, cleared the codes, and now the po401 is back. car sounds...

Well, the po401 is saying is that the egr valve has restricted flow. After changing the egr and the tube, something else is causing the restriction. a more thorough diagnosis is recommended. The po420 code sounds like a possible catalyst failure or an o2 sensor failure.

Check engine light code p1676 Chevy lumina Ltz

Trouble Code: P1676 (3.8L V6 VIN K Auto)
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid

Number of Trips to Set Code: 1
OBD II Monitor Type: CCM Details
Indicators: MIL Details
Trouble Code Conditions:
Conditions for Setting the DTC.
  • The ignition is on.
  • An improper voltage level has been detected on the output circuit which controls the EVAP purge solenoid.
  • The above conditions are present for at least 30 seconds.

Possible Causes:
  • Poor connection at the PCM. Inspect harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, and poor terminal to wire connection.
  • Damaged harness.
  • Inspect the wiring harness for damage. If the harness appears to be OK, disconnect the PCM, turn the ignition on and observe a voltmeter connected between the EVAP purge solenoid control circuit and ground at the PCM harness connector while moving connectors and wiring harnesses related to the EVAP purge solenoid. A change in voltage will indicate the location of the malfunction.

1998 Chevy Lumina has check Engine light on and code says egr valve which has been replaced now what

Check engine lights sometimes do not go off right away. To reset the check engine light, disconnect your battery, turn the lights on, on your car ( to drain any power left in the computer systems), reconnect the battery and the light should be off. If it comes back on, the EGR valve was not installed properly.

1998 Cheverolet Lumina, ''service engine soon'' and hard gear shift

I doubt the two problems are connected. I would try a new gas cap and see what happens since it runs fine. The service engine soon light won't reset on it's own right away.
