SOURCE: Rear Brake Caliper

Most auto parts stores have a little cube that fits on a 3/8 ratchet wrench. use this cube to screw in your caliper. it has various nibs on it to fit a number of brake calipers. costs about 10 bucks. screw it in clockwise until its almost flush to the caliper housing...if you screw it in too far...the boot will pop over the piston and you will have a bigger mess. sometimes a screwdriver can be used to turn it but i prefer not to bleed. lastly make sure the grooves on the brake caliper piston is horizontal as to allow the caliper to slip over any "Nibs" on the new pads that are for alignment purposes.

How to replace front brake pads on a How to replace front brake pads on a 2000 Chevy S10 4WD pickup?

First you want to remove brake fluid from brake resovoir, raise front wheels off ground and set park brake or block rear wheels. Remove front wheels, keep steering wheel unlocked so you can turn rotors side to side. Loosen bolts that hold caliper end gently pry caliper free from rotor, remove caliper and remove pads, use bungy cord to hang caliper away from rotor, have rotors measured to see if they are thick enough to have machined, replace if out of specs. Match up pads with old ones, use anti- squeak red liquid and put layer on back of pads, let dry. Use tool to put pistons back into calipers, slowly put pistons back into bore while opening up bleeder screw so ABS won't be damaged. After rotors resurfaced, wash with rubbing alchohal to remove any oils from hands, install rotors and reverse putting pads back onto caliper and reinstall, torque caliper bolts to factory specs and tighten bleeder screws. Install wheels, torque lug nuts to factory specs and replace brake fluid in resovoir. Lower car carefully to ground and press brake peddle without pumping it. Any air in system should bleed out, if not get someone to help with bleeding system. Road test to ensure no squeaks or pulling, burn brakes in slowly.

How do I remove the front brake rotors?

To remove the rotors you are going to have to remove the brake caliper assembly. This can be done as one piece or two,my suggestion is in two pieces because you may be doing brake pads at the same time? The caliper and pads are held on by two long bolts that act as the sliders for the caliper. They face away from you behind the caliper at the top. These may be bolt headed or hiding underneath a rubber plug and are torx or even allen headed.Undo these completely and remove the caliper supporting the caliper with wire so it is not dangling.Next ,again facing the car, find the two larger bolts that hold the brake assembly to the steering knuckle and remove these.I suggest using a bar to get these moving they are going to be tight. At this point the rotor will pop off ,if it doesn't put your wheel nuts back on to protect the threads and strike the rotor at 12,6,3,and 9o'clock until it lets go.Put your new rotor on ,the brake assembly and then your caliper. If you are installing new brake pads you must puch the brake piston back with a C-clamp before it will fit on.Clean and lube as you go.Good Luck
