2003 VW Passat Brake Failure

I was backing out of a parking spot and my car **** and the ABS/ASR lights came on. Then I had not brakes. The petal was going to the floor and could not stop. I had to use my emergency brake. We have checked the brake fluid and it is full, so we do not think it is the brake lines. Any idea what else it could be?

Check that the vacuum line is feeding the servo any leaks in the vacuum line will stop the brakes from working abs relays on the pedal pressure to activate abs, if you can hear a hissing sound from the servo then the servo is leaking inside this is if the vacuum line is not damaged, use a pipe or screwdriver on the case and put to your ear and you should hear if its hissing or not.

a very common fault is the switch,the calipers are not much better,they will be able to sort it for you but they are bad news for a modern car !!

You have to get CV Boots replaced, this happens because they split. What happen was something got stuck inside the axel where the little boots is held on and split that little piece of rubber (its easy to do). As a result, fluid leaks and and spashes on the back tires so you never know it happens. When you make turns the car will make a clicking noise. You can add fluid but, it will continue to leak out if those boots are split so, you have to replace the boots. I had to replace the boots and axel because the boots come on the axel. Its an expensive project. Boots, axel and labor $500 starting if you go through the dealer. Also, if you have an extended warranty they won't cover it because there is no time frame when these boots split it just something that can happen. Honestly, they know this is something common especially if you drive through snow.

I have a vw passat TDI130 2003. It runs really well, but engine workshop lights up along with the esp, abs and the glow plug indicators lighting up, most garages are charging just for a diagnosis to the...

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you might access the ESP & ABS ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.
Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC stocked inside ESP & ABS ECU & reset it.
I'm convinced that your brake pedal switch is faulty because the glow plug warning light went ON, along with the ESP & ABS. Just replace the brake pedal switch, see if rear stop lamps light when press the brake pedal, and test the car on the road.

I have a 2003 Passat 1.8L turbo sedan. 2 months

Can't be 100% sure but if you didn't have this problem before doing the work on the wheel bearing I can only think 1 of two things. When they removed your whhel bearing the sensor ring for the abs got damaged or the abs sensor is damaged or not pressed into place in the knuckle. The front sensors are not screwed on, they just have a little sleeve and at time with the vibrations of doing a wheel bearing they get loose. You most probally won't have an abs fault due to these problems.

when the abs light or any other light flashes it means that theres a problem in that particuler system normaly on the abs system you will not feel no differance because the anti lock brake system works only if the hit the brake hard it would not allow the brake system to lock up any of the wheels thata why the name says it all ANTI LOCK BRAKE but you should get it check by a mechanic with a scanner he will tell you were is the fault good luck

2002 VW TDI Glowplug light blinking

They might be two unrelated problems. I have a 2001 and have had two failures of the glowplug harness. The last time I had a constant light.

As far as the brakes go, the rear brakes are used for motion control. So if you drive it pretty hard the computer will be applying the brakes to keep traction or stability. I have had the same sensation of a soft break pedal from time to time but no real problem has poped up. I did have a master cylinder go way back when I first got the car in 2003. Have not had to replace that part again.
