Landrover discovery wont start but battery is good

I had this same problem on a 2001 D II. I ended up following some instructions I found on LandRoverForums. Google them. Best Land Rover forums out there.

CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 12.6 VOLTS. IF BATTERY CABLES TIGHT AND BATTERY CABLES AND BATTERY POST CLEAN FREE FROM CORROSION. STARTER COULD BE BAD.TAP STARTER SEE IF IT CRANKS. IF NO REMOVE STARTER HAVE IT BENCH TEST. TURN OFF RADIO BEFORE DISCONNECTING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLES TO KEEP FROM LOSING RADIO CODE.

Need to know,is the starter turning the engine over?Is it getting fuel to the fuel rail?Is it getting spark?

Probably the starer solenoid. Can occur oddly and a bit of movement cures it as it's a high resistance issue. Cleaning the contacts helps, and reconditioning it can also.

check to make sure all fuse and relays are good. check the crank position sensor an the map sensor, make sure your getting 12v at the battery

if it is a mems unit , it will need to be programed to the key fob and alarm . (there is no way round it).

go to any autozone store. they will loan you the tools u need, and show u exactly how to remove the started.

This is something that will only get worse I'm afraid.
You really need another key made to the original spec. By this - I mean a key cut to code - not just copied, that includes the immobiliser unit.
You can get one from a Land Rover dealership, but will be cheaper from a good locksmiths that cut immobiliser keys to code + program the immobiliser chip.

According to my haynes manual for Landrover 200tdi, G - S reg,1989-1998 it goes as follows,
Stage 1:- Tighten all bolts to 30lb ft or 40Nm then
Stage 2:- Angle tighten a further 60 degrees then
Stage 3:- Angle tighten a further 60 degrees again.
