Misfire in cylinder 1 2001 mercury sable

Car misfiring and running rough took it to auto zone for diagnostic and here were the possible problems:
ignition system fault-spark plugs, ignition wires, coil
vacuum leak
injector fault
high or low fuel pressure
we changed the plugs and wires and still same problem any ideas?

Next change swap the injector with another and see of the problem moves.  If it does it's a bad injector.

Engine Code 301

Code # 301??? That is NOT a valid Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) for the engine control system on a 2000 Mercury Sable.

Assuming that you mean P0301, that is a cylinder misfire code that is identifying number 3 cylinder as the cylinder with the misfire problem. MANY things can cause a cylinder to misfire including spark plugs, spark plug wires or boots, burnt valves, broken valve springs, blow head gaskets, cracked cylinder heads, bad or dirty injectors, faulty injector control circuits, Failed ignition coils...the list goes on....proper diagnosis required.

I have a misfire in 1 cylinder I had just bought spark plugs and wires I went back and reguaged them all and it still has a misfire what else could it be I have a 2001 Mercury sable.

It could be a coil pack. Follow the wire from the spark plug back to the coil pack. each one should run two cylinders. Switch the coil pack with a different one and see if a different cylinder misfires. They are easy to change, just 2 7mm screws hold each one on.

Check engine light is flashing while driving. It seems to be running a little rough. This just happened this morning when I started the car.

The check engine lamp will flash when the computer/emission system sees a problem that could possibly damage the catalytic converter or other components. Often the cause is a cylinder or cylinders that are misfiring which will make the engine run rough. Because the light has been flashing you should have the problem checked out and repaired to avoid any possible damage. Good luck, hope this helps!

Have 2005 lincoln aviator - has miss at 30-55 MPH - no codes replaced all coils ( ford) & spark plugs (twice) - repair vacuum leak at PCV Still misses -- no codes -- help

The COPS (coils) may have shorted the drivers in the PCM (computer). You should get a misfire code for each cylinder misfiring though.

Slim possibility, but very expensive unless you have a service contract.

ACTION: Diagnose engine for engine misfire concern. If diagnostics determine an engine misfire which is characterized by leakage through exhaust valve(s), only replace the affected cylinder head(s).
SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES WITH RUNS ROUGH/MISFIRE CONDITION:
  1. Perform relative compression check on all cylinders. If abnormal, check cylinder leakage and actual compression for "low" cylinders refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00.
  2. If leakage/compression check indicates a valve train concern, per valve train diagnostics in WSM, Section 303-00, replace cylinder head and cam assembly, pipe plugs and timing chain tensioner, per procedure outlined in WSM, Section 303-01.
  3. If cylinder leakage and compression tests are inconclusive, perform misfire diagnostic, per TSB 05-22-8. NOTE: DO NOT TRANSFER SPARK PLUGS. INSTALL NEW SPARK PLUGS IN REPLACEMENT CYLINDER HEAD AND CAM ASSEMBLY. NOTE: THE ENGINE MISFIRE CONCERN IS TYPICALLY EXHIBITED ON THE LEFT HAND CYLINDER HEAD AND RARELY ON THE RIGHT HAND CYLINDER HEAD. UNLESS CONFIRMED, THE RIGHT HAND CYLINDER HEAD SHOULD NOT BE REPLACED AS AN "EXTRA MEASURE" SERVICE PRECAUTION. NOTE: THE REPLACEMENT CYLINDER HEAD WILL NOT IMPROVE OR REDUCE ENGINE HORSEPOWER OR TORQUE ABOVE ADVERTISED LEVELS.

1997 Mercury Sable Misfire

they may have done a relative compression test which is done electronically by measuring the RPM drop of each cylinder when the test is running, but not sure anyone but the dealer can do this test. This low compression you mentioned is not good, suggest u run the test yourself, the compression test guage kits are cheap u can buy them on line for about $25 US, also tank added chemicals don't do anything in the short term and noting if the injector is badly clogged, do u understand what I mean about a high pressure factory cleaning? it is quite a different animal.
