HELP!!!
SOURCE: A/C went out on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier
What do you mean by went out,if it just one day stopped working,it could just be low on freon.does the a/c compressor come on? to find out....start engine..turn a/c completely off....turn on a/c....as soon as you turn on a/c you should hear a click sound under the hood,if you dont hear click, you may just be a little low on freon.you can add freon yourself instead of paying alot at a shop.buy some r134 refrigerant, walmart sells several differnt brands just make sure it comes with a hose to add with.find your a/c low pressure line on car.....connect hose attached to refrigerant bottle...snap onto fitting on low pressure on a/c line.....start car with ac on add refrigerant......soon you should here a click....if so that was the compressor coming on,add freon until guage on bottle is in the safe zone. Ihopoe this helps you,if it doesnt you may need to take it to a shop.

You probably have way too much unburned fuel in your exhaust system (how's your mileage?) or possibly a failed oxygen sensor that is giving false information to the computer.
SOURCE: DIC doesn't work
Are you talking about the one in the roof console, near the windshield?
With the key OFF:
Depress and hold the MODE and the ENGLISH/METRIC buttons.
With these two buttons still depressed, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
When you do this all display segments will light for 2 seconds then off for 2 seconds, then it should show "PS" then turn off. After this, then unit may show E1, E2, E3 or E4. If E and a number (E1) didn't come up, then there are no errors in the System.
Turn the van off, then....to set the compass, find your location on the map picture. The number you fall under is your zone number.
Turn the ignition ON.
Cycle the driver information center (DIC) to the Compass/Temperature mode.
Press both the E/M and the MODE buttons for approximately 5 seconds.
The last entered variance zone number will be displayed.
Press the E/M button until the proper variance number (See picture) is showing.
Press the MODE button in order to set the new variance zone and resume normal operation.
Note: The features are controlled by outside data. The only feature that is self contained in the unit is the compass, and if it is not working correctly, then the unit is malfunctioning and I would suggest replacing it with a new one.
Perform these steps on more time. If it still does not work right, then the unit will need to be replaced.
Turn the ignition ON.
Cycle the driver information center (DIC) to the Compass/Temperature mode.
Press both the E/M and the MODE buttons for at least 10 seconds until the calibration symbol appears.
Release both buttons once the calibration symbol appears.
Complete 3 360° turns in an area free from large metal objects.
But I would wait before replacing it. Drive it around normal for a day first. If it nothing happens then, then replace it. The compass will not always calibrate right away.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Most probably and if a cat is not flowing proper is causes back preasure that can result in sticking or burned vavles, mechanic not nice by saying ignore the cat effiency code p0420.Can ussually have cat replaced at aftermarket muffler shop for approx. $200 cheaper than valve job or excessive fuel that you have used and damage that may occur to your engine.

first i would have autozone give you a print out of the codes that were stored in the computer of your cars ecm.then check the trouble tree for diagnosing those codes.autozone sells a book on trouble codes.do you have over 100,000 miles on the car? the converter is covered upto 10 years or 100,000 miles.next, yes you can remove and replace the 02 sensor, with a 7/8 wrench and or buy a 02 socket.on a 4 cyl. engine there is 2 one before and one after the converter which is located in the exhaust close to the engine.hope this helps.
