2005 Kia Rio - sometimes won't start, but has a new battery

Sometimes when driving the lights, radio and a/c will turn off; car won't re-start and gives that 'clicking' sound of a dead battery. Jumpping it off will get it to start, but then the above happens again. AutoZone just keeps advising it's a bad battery or battery cell. Any ideas?

I once had a chvy lumina car that had a similar problem. I ended up replacing the alternator that was not charging up the battery. The battery was replaced first and then the alternator. In addition, the electronic motherboard was replaced underneath the coil pack. I did all the work myself. No more electronic problems. If they did a diagnostic test on your car and it showed a bad battery then the battery should be tested by Autozone. Go to Oreilly's too for test.

SOURCE: 1999 Kia Sportage: Issue with car starting

You may need a starter. My 99 Kia would get me places and would refuse to start. Someone hit the starter with a wrench and it started right up. I had to hit the starter to get my Kia to start until I replaced it.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Rio Won't Start Clicking Noise Battery is GOOD

My 2004 Kia Rio just started losing compression and died on me. I tried starting it and it only clicks. I checked the battery cables and they are not corroded and very tight. Could it be the battery or the alternator not charging the battery? there is no water in the oil and it's not the water pump.

I have 05 kia rio. jump started dead battery but the cables were crossed and killed it instead. purchased new battery. car stuck in park. worked when screwdriver in override button but still won'

There is a large maxi-fuse between the battery and alternator. Its at least 100 amp or more. It may be in the cable at the battery, or in one of the fuse boxes.
You may also have damaged the key switch or the brake circuit.
You may have to get a book to get the wiring diagrams to check everything involved.

2005 Kia rio cinco just stalled out coming home from work. Won't start at all now...just cranks. Had to tow home. No check engine light came on and no code on code reader. Ideas?

Check the fuel pump and all fuel related items, and check the coil pack. Check fuse's for same.
Remember, NO air, or NO fuel, or NO spark equals NO run.

Replaced the battery in my 2005 Kia Rio and it locked the radio. Need to reset the radio

You can't reset it yourself. It takes a scanner at your Local Dealership to do it. People do it, (new battery) everyday unaware that doing so can and usually does, arm the theft system and either kills the radio or the whole car. To me it's just another built-in defect that requires dealer assistance. It's a buzzkill I know, and it probably won't be long until car owners won't even have access to the engine compartment. They will need your VIN, and then they call HQ to get the code for your radio.
