I am not familiar with this particular car, but the tach problem may be due to the speed sensor. I'd find the speed sensor and have it checked or replaced. My transmission has an input and output sensor. The input sensor feeds the tach (and the computer), the output sensor feeds the speedometer (and the computer). Also the knock sensor is critical to keep the car running efficiently without damaging itself.
I have a '97 Chevy 1500 with an automatic trans. This morning i started it up and the speedometer and tachometer needles sit at zero. Also the gear selector fails to light up. Upon accelerating from a stop, it starts in third gear. I can manually downshift to second but not to first. It will not upshift automatically. Only manually. Also, it will not shift into overdrive when up to speed. The check gauges light comes on but only intermittently. Additionally, the service engine light came on however I suspect that this is a separate problem as the 262 engine does not run well on this horrible new 10% ethanol fuel and it makes it throw an O2 sensor code. Does anybody have a clue here? I changed the 10amp fuse for the gauges but it hasn't fixed the issue. I didn't think it would resolve it because the rest of the instrument panel works (oil pressure, temp, voltage, fuel). Please, any advice.
You have two sensors on the engine that send a signal to the computer, speedo, and tach. If just one of these sensors goes bad your speedometer and tachometer can just stop working. Check if these sensors are blocked or if broken then replace.
2000 dodge ram 2500 truck 4wd the abs light and air bag light were on then the check engine light went on then all of a sudden all the gauges and warning lights went dead and off including the tach and other gauges. But now all the gauges are working and the check engine light went off with all the others and the tach and other gauges are working. what is the problem with this truck ? The only code it read was p1687 from the dtc. Is the problem the pcm or something else.
