98 Nissan Quest loses power while driving then evenually kicks in

Changed fuel filter - still does it. When it loses power you have to floor it and maybe you will keep your speed. In city traffic, it will stall if you don't put it in idle and keep on the gas (sputters), and when pulling away from a light van won't go more than 20 kms. per hour.
The problem will come and go while driving.

SOURCE: changing water pump on 1994 nissan quest

There is no easy way, water pumps are hard to change on this vehicle. Before starting the job I would buy a repair manual with step by step instructions. To give you some idea on how long it may take, the labor time is 4.5 hours for an experienced tech.

Sounds like a plugged catalytic converter especially if the engine light isn't on. Just open the exhaust system ahead of the converter and see how it runs.

Loss of power and misfires

It sounds like the catalytic converter. I had the same problem. What to check....after driving for a couple of miles pull over and look underneath at the converter, if it is glowing there is your trouble.
