When I started my 1998 buick regal this morning the speedometer was moving back and forth, fast. I put in in gear and drove and it kept doing that same. I drove about 1/4 mile and the car shut off and it would not start and it locked up in gear and won't come out of gear. It's locked up in "park", it won't start, but the lights all come on. What could be the problem?

This happen to me after I got into a small fender bender. The dealership stated this only happens when something is not closed correct (door, hood, etc)

see my comments, not 100% sure that it was the out put speed censor or not, but after reconnecting the wires to a new censor and reconnecting the battery and clearing codes it worked. connection was not clipped may have been loose

If the starter is turning the engine, try re-setting the security system (leave key on till light stops blinking.) If the starter does not turn, you may have some success in re-setting system, if not you need to check battery voltage and voltages in starter system till you find the problem...can be something as simple as a bad connection at the battery.
