Radio replacement While trying to replace the radio in my 2003 subaru outback I was trying to connect the new head unit directly to the cars wires instead of using a converter harness (I cut the wires). After consulting an expert, I was told to reconnect the the harness and get a converter. I tried plugging in the old radio in the mean time while the harness came in, but the old sterio now doesn't work while hooked up to the original harness. I did blow out the radio fuse, but is it possible I blew out other fuses or wires? Other notes: after I messed with the wiring, the cars time on the speedometer and the trip distance reset every time the car is turned off and on. Are these things related?

Both seat heaters in this car are on the same fuse and relay. If one is working and the other is not, you can assume that the fuse and relay are okay. It could either be a broken circuit in the seat heater itself or a bad switch. Most likely it is a break in the heater element. I had this problem in my 2004 forester on the driver side. after removing the upholstry cover on the seat and some careful inspection I found two broken solder joints at each thermostat in the seat heater element. A quick solder job fixed the problem. The only real difficulty on the job was that the thermostats and associated connections are sandwiched between two layers of fabric and filled with hot glue. Careful probing with the end of a soldering iron can melt the hot glue away from the areas you need access to. A quick internet search will find you some pretty good directions on how to remove the seat covers. Hope this helps.

I took out the stereo of my 2000 outback and put it back all wires plugged in and it wont turn on any ideas of what might be the issue?

check your fuse box and see if your radio fuse is blown if it isnt you should try connecting the yellow and red wires from the radio and the harness all together and see if it comes on. if it does theres a problem with the main power supply (red wire from the harness). quick fix : run a new wire from the red on your stereo to the fuse panel and connect it to the radio fuse.

Trying to get radio out of a 2006 Subaru Baja to check speaker wiring and cant get dash cover off

It's probably the speaker, not the wiring. I've got one speaker that goes in and out, mostly out. Turns out the diaphragm is getting stuck to the magnet. After seeing the wiring checking your speaker connection would be a much easier place to start.

We hooked up an external speaker to the contact points and got sound, plugged the original back in, no sound. A simple un-intentional patting to the speaker and it started working again.

Will probably be replacing soon.

As a side note, crutchfield sent me some nice installation instructions when I purchased a new wire harness to put in a new radio. Pretty detailed and with photos. Getting in there takes a bit of work, but trying to trace wires would be painful.

Need a stereo wire color code for 2000 subaru outback limited

The sell a nifty little invention at Wally-World. Its called a wire harness...look for it in the auto parts section. it will wire directly to your stereo wires and then just plug & go... if your subaru wires are missing the harness on the end, its a whole different ballgame, and its gonna be fun...try this...

Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Blue/Yellow
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow/Red
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Green
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown/White
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Green/Black
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Red/Yellow
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): White/Black
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): White/Red
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Red/Green
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Blue/Green
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Red
