Car suddenly slowing down

Recently I bought a second hand car - Toyota Corolla 2000 LE. When I stop at signal and accelerates when it is green, it moves slowly though I give more acceleration than normal. It used to happen once in a while and I'm living with it.

Today, in traffic, when I'm climbing a small hill, it slowed down almost full when I was at 30mph. Fortunately, I managed to go top of that hill and got down and drove 2 miles to reach home without any problem though I stopped at signals. This is the first time that happened to me at 30mph.

Please suggest me how could I fix this problem. Am I unlucky having this car?

I don't know much about cars and this is my first car.

Do you have any idea how much it may cost me to resolve this fuel pump problem?

    In the evening,

Thanks a lot Sparrow117 and SpottyDick. I will check codes after 1 month and if they reappear then based on codes I will take your suggestions.

From the info you have given sounds like a fuel system problem generally , in general terms the fuel trim figures are way out. if the fuel trims are plus or minus more than ten percent then the fuel air mixture is out .what could it be ? well the most common fault is a faulty air mass sensor.other causes are vacuum leaks or a sudden drop in fuel pressure.diagnosing the causes is a job for an experienced tech with some test equipment unfortunately the code reader doesnt give all the answers.as far as it goes hope this has been of some help to you

I would get it checked out, but the way you describe it, it sounds like a fuel pump problem. Or something may be clogged.

Well it really depends on the mechanic. Or the place of business. You can just go into a shop, and ask what they think it would cost to get your car looked at, and explain the situation to him on what the car is doing.

there is a problem in your gear shifter located insde your transmission. have a transmission expert check your transmission, since this is not a DIY job.

SOURCE: 1997 toyota corolla - I've had the car fail to

This is an engine/ carburation problem, it cant be anything else. The ECU may have a fault or a crank sensor is playing up or the fuel pump or an air flow meter or throttle switches. Take it to someone with engine diagnostic equipment not transmission or brakes.

My car doesnt accelerate like it should it goes slow til after i hit 30ph then it picks up my car used to have get up and go its a 2000 toyota corolla ce what do i do..

Is it automatic? Maybe the car is starting off in 2nd gear? Try shifting it manually, starting in Low, and then progressively shifting to 2nd, and then to Drive. If it now accelerates normally, there could be a shift solenoid problem in the transmission. Verify that your transmission fluid level is correct. If it is, and the problem persists, have it professionally diagnosed. Not much that a DIYer can do with an automatic, unfortunately.

2000 Corolla hard to start and slow acceleration

most probably the mass air flow if you have not recently had a timing belt done. If you have recently had a belt done seems that the cam is a tooth off, if the belt was never done verify that the belt has not jumped a tooth.
