Ford F150XL intermittently is shifting hard can be on open road at55MPH
will pop out of gear, rev up really high and then pop back ingearhard.
Sometimes though it won't go back into gear and I have tostopand start
over.
Used truck to me but ran great since October until now - transmission service checked and found no problems

I had the same problem on a toyota truck after I had it lifted that is, the shif linkage was not properly adjusted. If I held the shifter down it would not jump outta gear, but hit a bump or stomp on the gas and it would

Most likely you have a linkage problem between the shift lever and the transmission and or the rubber bushings for that linkage are bad. It can also be the pivot point of the shift lever.
Have you checked for auto transmission fluid level? It needs to be Mopar ATF +4 ONLY, no other brand will work correctly. Check for major leaks. Check tranny for tranny codes NOT cel codes.
When you shift into park and if Park holds then the trans is gone. (Auto clutch packs burned up) Smell for burned fluid. Pull up the trans dipstick with the car running and warmed up. Make sure the level is good. Most likely a trans Overhaul is needed.
There are a few possible causes of this: Likely internal shift synchros in trans have worn out. Possible: linkage worn, or bad input shaft bearing. In all cases trans will need to be removed and torn down.
