1998 Continental surge or misfire

I just got a 1998 continental and put a transmission in it. It had a misfire or surge when I accelerate or just cruse. I have replaced the wires, the coils and the intake valve cover gasket. It did not change anything. There are no codes displayed. I saw something about air in the line but a mechanic said the fuel flow was fine. The car also idols just fine. Where do I go from here?

Make sure you have brake lights. This is were the shifter solenoid gets it's signal from to get it out of gear.
One thing you can try is turn the igntion switch towards the run postion stopping just short of activating the electronics. Then try and move shifter to neutral then you can start it and out it into gear so you can drive it to get it fixed.

SOURCE: replace rear brake light bulb 1998 lincoln continental

pop the trunk and right behind where the lights are pull the carpet down and their will be of the following depending on the trim.

You will either see the light sockets themselves that you can twist and pull to change the bulb, or you will see the plastic nuts/screws that you can remove to remove the entire assembly in order to access the bulbs.

If it's your 3rd brake light, the screws to access the housing are located in the upper part of the trunk

Where is the transmission solenoid located on a 98 lincoln continental

Your Continental is equipped with a TRANSAXLE, and I can think of four different solenoids, not including the internal shift solenoids, associated with the transaxle.
It may be better to describe what your ISSUE is, so that a diagnosis may be suggested for you.

My 2000 Lincoln Continental runs fine when it is cold, but after it warms up and I am driving between 20 & about 50 MPH the engion cuts out - the whole car shakes while trying to maintain a speed or...

I think it might be a fuel delivery problem.I would check the fuel pressure and make sure its within the specs for that engine. Its sounds like it could be a weak fuel pump. When ever the engine does'nt get enough fuel to mix with the air then it causes a lean condition which will make it misfire. If it was an ignition problem it would misfire whether it was cold or hot.

4.6 liter, 97 Continental, 177,000 miles Engine miss

My 1998 Continental started missing. Problem was very slightly leaking valve cover gasket that allowed a little oil to drip on plug/plug wires. The oil would 'burn off' and not be evident on the driveway. It left carbon tracks that would short out and keep a plug from sparking.the cylindars.
