could have worn timing chain engine slipped time or could have faulty ignition module or CKP sensor.

I will assume this is a 4.3 engine, the oil pressure /fuel switch is located on the rear of the engine next to distributor, what is the problem?

Sounds like the ignition module. Do you know if it is tbi or cpi?

If you listen closely when you first turn the key to the "run" position, you should be able to hear the fuel pump cut in for a few seconds, and then stop. If you can hear it, then it's okay, and your problem is elsewhere. Make sure you have spark. Use a timing light to check. If you can't hear it, check your fuses, both inside the cab, and under the hood. Check to see if there is power to the fuel pump. Chances are it is a faulty fuel pump, but you want to make sure that's what it is before you start, because it can be a filthy job. There isn't a drain, you'll have to syphon as much as you can, and lower the tank with a floor jack. If there is an engine light on, borrow a scan tool and it will save you a lot of time and money. sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is bad thats why you hear pump run not able to build pressure.

are you sure the pump you installed is not defective it does happen more than you can believe. If you can run a power to the pump hot line or jump the relay and have a ear to hear if it is pumping, this is what I would suggest.. Good luck

Fuel pump is overheating (means it is failing) replace it.

If it is an electrical Fuel Pump, you will hear the pump whirring as soon as you turn the key to "ON". If you can't hear it, the fuel pump is bad. If it is a mechanical fuel pump on the engine, remove the hose that goes into the carburator. And crank the engine. It should pump the gas out without a problem. If it does not, the fuel pump is bad. Also check the relay to the fuel pump and the shutoff valve. It is more likely that it is a relay problem since it hits a bump and goes off then it carries a current again. Probably a bad relay under the hood for the fuel system.
