Squeeling when the car starts.

What is it exactly that causes those belts to squeel? Do they just need tightened?

Your belts need replaced. Its the belt slipping that causes the squeel. Sometimes the idle pulley or belt tensioner will make the same noise if wore.

They squeel when they are bran spanking new and get wet.
They Squeel when they nasty old. It will not cause serious damage. However those belts are all connected to pumps that power all sorts of things. leaveing a beat up belt on your car is not going to bring anything to a hault and it may run for years with that crappy belt. Your car wont be running maximum potential and more irritating noises may follow like whining pumps ect ect ect.
Examine the belts for splits and cracks If there are many change the belt. You know what I mean If you got a nice fresh bran new belt you know its going to be moving the way it should be In turn keeping the pumps running the way they should. Let a squeeling cracked belt do its thing with the pumps and expect your pumps to be the next thing to start singing along.

I have a 90 Geo Metro.Alternater belt squeels when the car is started. Squeeling stops for a bit then starts again when this happens headlights an dash lights dim an the heat docent blow so well. Squeeling...

Change the belt and check for bad bearings in the Alternator pulley and all the other pulleys that the belt rides on sounds like it could be dragging causing your belt squeal or your belt is worn too good luck.

Squeeling after replacing all belts and the tensioner pulley?

Still sounds like the belts, not much will cause that type of noise. You can completely remove all belts and start engine to see if noise is still there, no harm to engine to run it for a minute or two with no belts. You will know for sure then.

I have a 2001 Sonata. I have a squeeling pulley.

It sounds like you have a worn or streched belt making the sqeeling noise. Whenever you turn on a
device in the car that draws a fair amount of voltage
ie. a/c or headlights it will cause increased drag on
the alternator and if you have a loose/worn or glazed
belt, it can slip around the pully making the squeel.
To adjust the alt-a/c belt loosen the mounting bolts
on the tensioner, then use the adjuster bolt behind
the tensioner pully to loosen and tighten the belt.
Be sure to check the belt for cracks bald spots etc.
While the belt is loose spin the pullys to make sure
they all spin freely. Also I would replace the belt just
to be sure. Hope this helps

Cold start fan belt squeak... slight misalignment

its possible that a pulley replacement is needed but i would first reccomend buying a lubricating spray from your local hardware store and applying it to your squeeling belt if the noise stops then you may just need to tighten or replace the belt. in addition an overtightend belt can cause undesired stress on the pulleys.

Belt tightening on '98 tercel

There is no adjustment on newer cars they use a spring loaded tensioner wheel that keeps constant tension on the belt. When the belt starts squealing on cars as the electrical accessories are turned on the belt must be replaced it has worn out and is slipping.

2005 nissan ultima.hear a squeeling noise.its worse when ac is of

sounds like to tightened the belt to much... back off the tension on it a little bit, with the belt, you want it tight, but not to tight,,,, it should have about 1/4 flex in the belt when tightened... make a little loose and see if you still have the squeel... if you still do try going to a parts store, like pepboys, autozone etc. pick up some brake cleaner it will be in a canaster, and while the engine is running spray a little <spirts> on the pullys, and see if the squeel stops, if so then it could be a bad bearing in the part... see what makes it stop... the brake cleaner will dry quick and not ruin anything cause you do it in short bursts do not use wd40 or any oil type of stuff on it cause it will cause slippage...

94 nissan maxima se, Squeeling loud when car is started.

Hello,
I can't tell exactly what it is since I cannot hear it, but in most cases it's a belt. Check that first, or have a friend help you - one of you can start the car and the other one can look under a hood to search for the squeeling part.
