Cranks up ok, but wont shift out of park. has a T handle in the console with a button that you must push to shift out of park.... when I push the button I can hear a faint click on the left side under the stirring collum like a small relay click. Does it have a relay control or fuse ckt that would cause this? appriciate any help.... THANKS
There is probably a safety interlock with the brake pedal so in order to move from park the ignition must be switched on and the footbrake applied.
I suggest you read the section in the vehicle handbook and if there is such an interlock and it isn't working check the brake pedal switch function and adjustment first.

It sounds like you may have a faulty shift interlock solenoid. It is under the center console. You can expose it and see if it is getting voltage when the vehicle is on and you foot is on the brake. If it is, replace the solenoid. If it isn't, you may have a faulty relay.
SOURCE: 2006 Cobalt . The Gear shift is stuck in park.
theres a switch that controls the shifter when the brake is applied. try putting the car into gear with the key on accessory, not on. if it goes into gear the switch needs to be replaced.

You have a locked up transfer case, have u tired rocking the truck back and forth while trying to free up? also has the transfer case fluid ever been checked and/or changed? dirty fluid can cause the clutch to seize up, it uses ATF Type DEXRON VI
