I have a 1998 Disco I and I have the same problem. This weekend, June 29, 2013 my car overheated while driving up a maze in a parking garage to the guest parking. All of a sudden my temperature went way high but not quite at the redline. By the time I got to the seventh level and turned off the care, the radiator spewed fluid everywhere. The next morning I drove it home (3 miles) and it did not overheat. I filled the radiator with water and there is no obvious leak. I don't know what to do and I have been driving here and there with no problem and no overheating !!!!?????

I have a 96 grand marquis i just changed the radiator and the coolant is not flowing through the hose to the thermostat and the hose at the bottom of the radiator what can i do?

check water pump with car OFF try spinning the fan if spins free check thermstat if not i would say change water pump i would suggest changing them both your looking about 50 bucks for a water pump and about 10 on thermostat (i would get a fail safe, if it breaks it locks open so theres no engine problems)

Well, you could have a head gasket leaking into the cylinder.

There must be a leak somewhere.

Also, the system may need to be flushed.

Also, check to see if the water pump has been changed with an opposite impeller.

This happened to me once on a car that had the wrong water pump installed.

Good luck on this one.

2003 towncountry over heating.replaced rad and thermstat but still over heating what the f cuold it beit has a 3.3 ....the rad had side blown out to begin with replaced it with upper, lower hoses and...

1. With what you have replaced, the only remaining credible explanation is the Water Pump. If the Water Pump is not operating correctly, this will cause overheating. The Radiator -"side blow out"? Did the radiator cap you have on not work. Overheating should cause fluid = steam to blow out the cap and not blow out the side of the radiator.
2. One thing you can do before replacing the Water Pump is to flush your entire system. There could be a blockage in the system. These flushing kits are available at most stores (Walmart or Autoparts Stores) and you can do it yourself.
3. Was the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (mounted near the thermostat) also changed out? If this was malfunctioning it could be giving you a false reading.
The Water Pump is the likely culprit if the Van is truely overheating.

My car is over heating when i shut it off the coolant resivoir is boiling and brown in color

It sounds like a faulty thermostat. Follow the main radiator hose to where it hooks onto the engine. The thermostat is located inside that housing. But is the cooling fan operating? Do you see any leaks at the radiator, hoses, or water pump? The water pump should have a "weep hole" and coolant will be coming out of it if the water pump is defective. Hopefully, it is the thermstat, that is an easy fix. Hope this helps and good luck.

99 Taurus heater not working.

sounds like you may have an air bubble trapped. Try loosening the radiator cap & running the engine at 1500 rpms till the thermstat opens & see if you can "burp" the air out. You may lose a little coolant this way. shut off car & recheck coolant in radiator and reservoir bottle. Just because reservoir is full, doesn't mean radiator is full.
