1994 Voyager Just curious. Years ago I bought a 1994 Voyager from a friends company. I immediately replaced the Timing Belt and Water Pump (95,000). Then at about 130,000 the Timing Belt and Water Pump was replaced again. The assumption was that the replacement had some problem. Then at 153,000 with no warning, after driving 100 miles on the highway, stopping for 2 plus hours and, then back on the highway for less than 20 miles the Van overheated with no warning. I first notice smoke from the exhaust (actually first thought it was some other car). After getting it towed I was told that cost would out weigh the value, they were guessing that the 'gaskets' melted and engine issue. At Chrysler, another mechanic told me it was a common Chrysler issue. Any thoughts?

You can do it yourself, but also do yourself a favor and get a repair manual, that way you got a step by step procedures and there is no gessing. You might be able to get one at the local auto parts store, and they also have web sites that can help you too.

SOURCE: SETTING TIME ON 1994 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER

Hi LMSADA,

Contact the parts store that sold you the timing belt and they should be able to give you the timing settings on your van.

You know if you are going to keep doing major work on your van it would be worth your while to purchase a Chilton's book that is specific for your van.

SOURCE: Serpintine belt popped off on 1999 plymouth grand

Yes, the belt tensioner can wear out. I had the same problem with a brand new belt and noticed that the belt tensioner was "moving" alot when the engine was running and the belt was on (of course). I changed the belt tensioner and put the belt back on. Knock on wood, hasn't given me anymore trouble.

SOURCE: how do you set the timing on a Plymouth Voyager ?

I do not recommend you to change the timing belt. If you have basic knowledge you have to have included together with your question at least the year of the Plymouth Voyager besides the type of engine. Usually Plymouth Voyager 1996-2000 comes with 4 different engines (4 cyl, 6 cyl 3.0 lt, 6 cyl. 3.3 lt and 8 cylinders) and the procedure to change the timing belt is different. I guess in the 4 cylinders engine water pump have to be removed in order to change the timing belt but you will decide if you change or not the water pump: Is it the original factory water pump and how many miles you put in it? if you already replaced it, how many miles ago? you keep your cooling system clean? You will decided if you keep the same water pump or replaced it.

Need to change water pump in 99 plymouth voyager 3.0 liter

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the drive belts. Remove the timing belt covers and the timing belt.
  4. Remove the water pump mounting bolts.
  5. Separate the water pump from the water inlet pipe and remove the water pump.
  6. Inspect the water pump and replace as necessary.

To install:
  1. Clean all gasket and O-ring surfaces on the water pump and water pipe inlet tube.
  2. Wet a new O-ring with water and install it on the water inlet pipe.
  3. Install a new gasket on the water pump.

  1. Install the pump inlet opening over the water pipe and press until the pipe is completely inserted into the pump housing.
  2. Install the water pump-to-block mounting bolts and tighten to 20 ft. lbs.
  3. Install the timing belt and timing belt covers. Install and adjust the drive belts.
  4. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Fill the cooling system to the proper level with a 50 / 50 mixture of clean, ethylene glycol antifreeze and water.
  5. Run the engine and check for leaks. Top off the coolant level, if necessary.

Installing water pomp

Your water pump is operated y the timing belt, so therefore you have to remove the timing belt to replace the water pump and then retime the motor. If you don"t know how to time the motor you would be better off to take it to a mechanic.

1994 accura integra how do you replace water pump without replacing timing belt

Hi:
Sorry, but the timing belt must come off to remove the water pump, because that is what spins the water pump.

Common sense says to replace the timing belt and tensioner when the water pump gets changed, and change the waterpump when you change the timing belt...

Want to know if it is a timing belt or timing chain that is required for a 2002 chrysler voyager

It's a belt. Cost is about 800 to replace belt, water pump and front main seal. You'll want to have the water pump and front main seal done while they r in there, will save headache later. Timing belt runs the water pump so if 1 goes, then so does the other.
