1999 Dodge Intrepid stalling

I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid, 191000 miles 2.7 litre Engine. It has check engine light on due to bad catalytic converters. Has been this way Ive been told by previous owner for 10 years. My mechanic said it wasnt hurting the car and its been running fine soo...thats a short history. The other day it started fine, and after I drove it about half mile it started chugging on idle, no power on acceleration and it finally stalled about 1/4 mile later. The check engine light was flashing (It is usually on steady)...I had to get to work so I walked to work, later that evening I drove it home, though there was a loud clicking noise coming from engine, that was not there before..it went away after 5 minutes. My son said it was the rocker arms. I checked the codes and have no new ones only the 2 air sensor ones related to teh CATs and the battery disconnected within past 50 starts (replaced battery and Alternator a month or so ago)now Im afraid to drive it and get stranded...I've been hearing from other people that its a vapor lock or a plugged fuel filter..btw this happened in the morning in cool weather

let me clarify, teh engine light has been on for ten years and air sensors have been replaced numerous times over the ten years..the assumption is the Catalytic converters were going

try haviing your alternator checked advance auto parts can check it while its on the car and the can check the battery too. if thats not it it may stall due to a loose battery connection or a loose ground strap. if it stalls and everything turns of (electrical) it may be a connection or ground strap.

Check your EGR valve.Sounds like that would be the problem as the symptoms would suggest it is sticking.

SOURCE: 2005 Dodge Stratus ? Camshaft Position Sensor causing problems (I

I had the same problem with my '05 Stratus SXT 2.4 DOHC. I've replaced the cam pos sensor and it seems to be running fine right now. On the Dodge forums a lot of the guys say that you need to replace the crank pos sensor too. I've bought one of those just in case it comes back again. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge grand caravan stalls

Check the sensors on the throttle body. There is a sensor that controls air to fuel ratio. If that sensor is bad then the car will run and then stall out while in drive. I had the same problem when it was cold outside last winter. If you dont want to dish out the money without knowing if it is that part at fault or not then start the van pop the hood and located the throttle body. Place your hand on the sensors and give them a little shake and then make sure they are plugged in all the way. You could also turn the van off and unhook the sensor clean the connectors and plug it back in. That should do the trick and if it doesnt stall anymore then I would replace those sensors if I was you. One more thing. If your giving the sensors a tug while the car is running and you hear it going to stall you could located the gas pedal cable and give it a rev or two by hand so it doesnt stall out and turn off. By the way. You van isnt over heating at all is it?

Warms up, check engine light comes on. then turns off car

sounds like you have a bad "Idle Air Control Valve" if it stalls while hot could also be a bad MASS AIR FLOW Sensor/MAF Sensor but it may be only sure said once you plug in an OBII Scanner so you can read that code that is causing that check engine light to come on..

Good luck.

2000 Dodge Intrepid with PO455 code and stalling.

A code 455 most likely one or more of the following has happened
a loose or bad gas cap
a non-conforming gas cap
other leaks or damage pieces in the evap system

Inspect the evap system for cracks or breaks in lines listen for vacume leaks or strong gas fume smell and fix all lines you find that are damaged ..I know you say you put a new gas cap but make sure it a conforming cap..Hope this helps

Vehicle stalls sometimes

could be either the cam sensor or crank sensor , but I would check the crank sensor first , this sensor will not cause a check engine light either

2004 Dodge Intrepid "jumps" occasionally when braking?

if your car has the 2.7 litre you have to change the oil every 5oookm or 3000 miles and use the exact grade as per the book.
the 2.7 has small oil galleries.
you have low oil pressure and or idle speed.check the rpm and it should be 700 unloaded at warm temp.if the iac controller is bad and there is low idle, really low rpm could trigger the oil light to come on and the transmission vacuum controls will be causing strange behavior.

2000 dodge intrepid 3.2 engine light on yesterday, code PO432, should I replace the upper oxygen sensor?

this is the code for catalytic convertor efficiency. if you decide to change the 02 sensor change both of the sensors for the left head...there is a good chance the convertor is going bad also depending on the miles
