Hood latch frozen in closed position

1993 Volvo 240 wagon that has been sitting outside for 10 months. I tried to open the hood and it's stuck in the closed position. I've pulled the release from inside the car and it is somewhat frozen. I've tried to access from under the hood and I can't figure out where the releases are. I've tried to wd40 random areas, but the hood won't budge. Are there any ideas of how I can access the latches so that I can open the hood? Thanks in advance for any help to get under the hood. Grill option? Coat hanger ideas? I'm trying anything. The trunk appears frozen locked as well. I can turn the key, but it won't open.

There should be a cable coming from the driver headlamp area and going acroos to the front center of the hood. where the latch is. spray penetrating oil on the latch at the front center of the hood.

here's a typical latch for a ford.

My 1989 Volvo 240 gl hood won't open cable doesn't pop hood, what can i do to open it

You have 2 choices. You can try to grab the cable through the grill, cut it then see if the wire can then be pulled to release the hood.
Another option is to go from underneath with big screwdriver to move the latch thus releasing the hood latch. Not sure if you can get access to it on this vehicle easily. try a flashlight and from under the car reach way up into the latch area.

I have a 1992 Volvo 240 Wagon and the hood will open, but it will not shut completely, it looks shut, but when starting to drive, it pops up before flying up to the window, any ideas?I tried WD40 and other...

Three part solution,
1. Lube the hood locks (yes there are two) the one you manuver from the inside (make syre you get the WD40 inside the hole wire and the latch you flipp from the outside when you open the hood.
2. Make sure the return springs for both locks are not broken otherwise no amount of lubing will help.
3. Adjust the lock. Open hood, remove grill losen bolts for the locks slightly, adjust and make sure they engage and release properly, tighten locks again and reassemble.

Hood instalation

You merely mark the positions of the bolts on the hinges with a marker. Remove the hood, and install the new one in the marked positions. Adjust the hood as necessary until it opens and closes smoothly..

I have 1993 volvo 240 I was driving and the car stopped and I had it towed.I started the car up and and it will idle some times and when I give it gas it stalls?

the fuel pump is inside the gas tank, not sure of the location of the relay, it is usually in the under-hood relay center, u should show it in your owners manual.

Hood latch won't release hood. 91 volvo 240.

Have had same problem on 1990 240 DL. Go underneath, tap ball at end of hood latch sideways with small hammer (take a good look at it --- you should be able to see which way it needs to go to clear). Once released clean and lubricate.

The heater motor makes a loud noise when the temp gets below 20

You are probably in the end stage of its life. Prepare for an imminent failure. Mine squealed for a few months off and on before it gave it up. Following the funeral I replaced it. If you are handy and patient, you can replace it, but have all the parts ordered beforehand. I got mine from and was happy with the outcome.

Starting in damp weather 1993 240 wagon, auto/od, 235k miles

perhaps you need a new cap and roter a new spark plug wire set. they don;t like moisture. also check to see if you have any broken or leaking vacuum hoses. the worse case senerio would be that your head gasket is leaking--at cold temps a little antifreeze will enter until everything warms up and it seals shut due to metal expanding. but since you say it's cold weather only--this probably wou;dn't be the case. good luck.
