On a 1998 Nissan altima gxe does it have ball bearings or wheel bearings? Cuz my car makes like a rubbing sound and a vibration sound when I'm driving. I have to blast the music to drown out the noise.Lol but no really what could it be?
Your car has bearings, which are easy enough to check. Jack the car off the ground. Grab the wheel top and bottom, pushing and pulling alternately. If there is movement felt at the center of the wheel, then this can indicate either the bearings need adjusting or replacing.
The vibration could be bearings, but you don't say if the vibrations or sound vary with speed, cornering, braking or where the problems seem to be coming from on the vehicle.
Which leads to the problems being any number of possibilities. Better information input usually leads to better out put information.

Could be the bearings in your alternator have gone dry and your alternator is about to quit out on you. I had a friend with an 01 altima and we could always hear him coming before we saw him because of this very problem. Changed the alternator out and noise went away. Thanks for using FixYa!
