Hi,clarification 129.066 engine 119.960 or 129.067 engine 119.972 same v8 engine but different specification,post your engine number,you need 2 mm valve timing using a dial gauge,ty

  • Anonymous Apr 09, 2009

    hi,i just read your comment;

you have to install your dial gauge,in top of intake valve, rotate your crankshaft, observe the dial gauge, when reach in 2 mm,look your crankshaft pulley, should be 25 degrees tdc, in open position;in close position35 degrees at bdc, same procedure in exhaust valveopen at bdc 13,in closing at tdc is 13 also, you can adjust, the timing if you have the deferent off set key in canshaft,ty

Why would my 88 f250 econoline van not switch tanks completely and can the switch be replaced with a manual valve

The fuel pump may be starting to go bad, when you get below half a tank, the pump does not submerge in fuel as much to keep it cool and it will seize up and stall the motor. You will need to replace the pump and check inside the bottom of the tank for small metal bits that almost look like shiny sand.

What should the psi compression be thanks.

It can vary between make and model of car. However, a general rule of thumb is that 135+ average is okay. Less than 85psi is pointing at something seriously amiss in the engine.

It can vary - some cars may have 125psi as 'average' compression.

Don't expect each cylinder to give the same compression reading as there will be a fluctuation. Another general rule of thumb is that there shouldn't be more than 10% variation between the readings. That is, if cylinder No1 is 135 psi, cylinder No2 shouldn't be less than '125 ish'.

If you suspect you may have compression issues, it's quite easy to do a bit of fault finding. Warm the engine first so that the pistons are expanded in the cylinders. Then do a dry compression (normal) test.

Here's some examples of compression tests on a 4 cylinder engine:
130 127 129 127

All compression readings are within 10% of each other. Fine.

Example 2:
95 95 129 127
Here, a low compression reading on cylinder 1 and 2 suggests a problem. It may be due to a faulty head gasket/cylinder head allowing compressed gases to be transferred via the defective head gasket from one cylinder to another.

Example 3:
130 80 129 127
Cylinder No2 has a problem. It's compression is way down. The other three cylinders are fine. So .. what is the cause of the low compression on cylinder 2? It could be a broken ring/cracked piston or a burnt exhaust valve.

This is where you do a second compression test - called the 'wet' test.

Squirt some light engine oil into each cylinder. Aim for the cylinder walls so that the oil can find its way down the walls and around the piston rings. Place a rag over each spark plug hole and spin the engine to expel excess oil.

The oil that you have sprayed into each cylinder will form a 'seal' around the piston ring. Do another compression test and note down the readings. Here's example 3 again:
Example 3:
130 80 129 127
.. with the low compression on cylinder 2.

If after carrying out the 'wet' compression test you have a reading along the lines of
130 100 129 127
suggests that the bore/piston rings in cylinder 2 are at fault. The compression has increased on No2 cylinder because of the oil forming a seal around the rings.

If there is no increase in psi on the wet test i.e
130 80 129 127
This suggests a burnt exhaust valve.

I fitted the timing belt but the warning light is still on

did the engine die before thj
which light?, there are 10 or more? lost the operators guide? its free.
did you check compression first. i would. it proves it was done right
and if interference engines I do a hand cranked leak down test
to avoid bent valves. YMMV, good luck there......

USA answer.: OBD2 systems.
first clear the DTCs
then run it. see if they return.
if do post them. DTC are errors.
no engine option stated, no series LC. either so cant say for sure.

200 series? and engines?
SO Your engines is the 4.7L and as such , you check
the belt timing 3 times then run a leak down test by hand
and roll the engine by hand first. after belt swap
with sparks out to be sure the pistons dont hit the valves.
if they do , stop.
never crank over in any interference engine blind.
the stater motor can bend valves.
if the engine ran bad, and you found the belt slipped.
the leak down test, would be next. for sure.

always ask how to service interference engines.
there are lots of precautions,.

Will a broken timing chain on a 2000 Lincoln ls mess up the motor

Yes, normally what happen is it throw out the valve timing. That is, one or two piston could be effected here with its related intake and exhaust valves. What could happen, broken piston tops, bent valves or broken valves.

Since, the 2000 Lincoln has a 4.6 litre V8 engine it will double over head cams. This mean each side of the engine on this V8 has it own camshaft. Also, Ford could have installed a cam brake, that is if the timing is lost, it will stop all valves in both heads to a close position. I hope so, some 4 cylinder have this option.

If the engine doesn't have a camshaft brake then major overhaul. It would be easier to buy an rebuilt factory engine to install. A good engine remanufacture that rebuild engine for Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and other auto manufactures would be you best bet. In other words, they rebuild those engines the way Ford wants them to be rebuilt. Best of luck. GB...stewbison

After diagnosis my v8 740i bmw indicated the "variable valve gear guide sensor for bank 2 and variable valve gear learning stops necessary" currently it's difficult accelerating the engine. would...

You have a v8 with a "variable valve gear guide sensor" on each bank. The trouble code is telling you that bank#2 sensor is faulty, or its signal is not getting to the engine computer.

Consequently, when bank#1 adjusts the timing (under hard acceleration or higher revs), bank #2 is not getting adjusted.

If the variable valve timing is not being activated (low load, load revs) the engine will run more or less normally.

Get the car to the dealer. You risk MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE if you keep driving it.
