I have recently filled up my van. A day later I'm going to work and the gas guage starts going to empty and I get the low fuel light. I looked under the vehicle and found a few wires that were either broken or stripped bare in places. I have spliced them together and am still having the same problem with my gauge - it starts out at full then goes to empty after a while. I have even checked the fuses and got no luck what so ever.
Jason, as far as the fuel gage, try a couple of resisters at the wiring for fuel gage sending unit, in gas tank. It's two wires, use the resister inline between the two wires. One resister is for low fuel level, the other for high fuel, If the gage reacts properly to both resisters, the problem is the sending unit in the gas tank. You can try 40 ohm and 250 ohm resistors. I used to get resistors from radio shack, I don't know if they went bankrupt? The store in my community closed. Other places may have resisters?
Just to add, the wire colors for sending unit/sensor are purple and black with white tracer.

If it's not overheating (you did'nt mention any oh) remove the wire from the sensor. if gauge still remains pegged, you have a short to ground in the wiring. First though, On some engines there are two sensors. One is near or on the thermostat housing, another can be found at the left rear corner of the cylinder head. Find out if yours has two before driving yourself nuts following wires!!

Sounds like there may be an air pocket in the system.
Try 'burping' the system. If this still doesn't fix the problem, check the temperature of the heater core hoses (in and out) The inlet should be fairly cool, the other should be piping hot. If they're both cold; the heater core has an internal blockage.
Next, replace the thermostat with a winter (180-195 F) derivative.
Bleed the system accordingly, and keep me posted!

I have this problem too. Only my gauge is stuck on full. The ABS light flashes off and on sometimes. Then speedometer stopped working. The transmission gets stuck in first or second gear if I try to drive it, then after a while it will finally kick in. It is just sitting in my drive now. I changed the instrument panel, but no luck there. Still have the same problem.
I have the exact same problem and frankly i am tired of running out of gas not ever really knowing how much i have. HELP HELP HELP please.
