Several weeks after gasket repair ticking sound appeared. Had mechanic check lifters, still noise appears after engine heats up. Mechanic added Lucus oil additive, still ticking. Any suggestions!
Check where the thermostat housing is, there is a plastic cross over to the other side of the intake. The intake cracks right there. Loss of coolant will cause overheating, plus if you look behind the alt. or remove it and start the engine, you will see where it is leaking, that`s if it is leaking to the outside. Most times it does. If that is not the problem, then with a blown head gasket you will have white smoke out the exhaust all the time, and the coolant level will of course go down. If it is the intake gasket, then you will have coolant in the oil, easy to see when you check the oil, creamy brownish colour and of course you will lose coolant and it will overheat also. Most likely since you said `white smoke water coming out around front of intake
ticking noise is usually lifter noise. your engine is fine.(to a point) try changing your oil put in a thicker oil to prevent metal to metal contact. go for a 15/40 20/50. let it run for a while(few miles), if it doesn't stop buy an additive called "engine lucas", that will dilute your oil just enough to allow it to lubricate your lifters. also when your oil level drops or your oil becomes dirty your lifters will make that ticking noise.(the one that increases with engine speed)
a blown head gasket 99% of the time will cause your car to smoke either blue or white.
If there is a timing chain on this motor, i would check this. a chain will mimic the same sounds as a lose valve assembly. If the engine at hand has a timing belt, disregard the previous statement and go to the next solution. The next solution will be resetting the valves. This is a common situation that can lead to this type of noise as well.
Well let me try ,it is very common to have to replace the top intake for they are plastic and warp what alot of techs dont know is when the replace intake or gasket that goes to the block .the kit comes with a new egr tube and oring ,if not put on when the top plenum intake is put back on after the car warms up the plenum expands just a little and this will create a vary slight exhaust leak on the drivers side of the top plenum which will sound like a lifter ticking.so the top plenum has to come off again.
What gasket was repaired? Can you isolate location with a piece of hose held to ear and moving other end around noise area?
That ticking is likely your fuel injectors... add some fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank
That doesn't sound like a head gasket problem to me, it sounds like it is lifters instead. have you done an oil change recently? if so did you put in the correct oil? how many miles are on the car? If that's not lifters ( which seems to be the culprit ) in your case, I seriously doubt debris in the engine and the enigne might have damaged. Thanks.
Yes its the exsault mainfold gasket it sounds just like a lifter
Some of the solutions I just read have my brain flipping over in it's bed!
Likely you have a lifter that has either become stuck up with residue inside or one has worn out. The additive you used is a good one, but it took a long time for the lifter to get that way...It won't clear up overnight. If worn, there is no chemical known to man that replaces worn metal. It bothers me that the noise began after the repair was done. Proper cleanup of debris is essential to prevent this kind of thing. Monitor the noise to make sure it does not get worse. If it does, bring it back to the shop that did the work.It should clear up in a few weeks.
HI,
check your fanbelt please.
and try to change it also.
thanks,
Definately it was not well fitted. they may need to rework the gasket. Or maybe a bolt was not well fitted or dropped in there.
rate this please.....
This sounds like a hydraulic valve lifter that is dirty, sticking and is not getting enough oil to lubricate the lifter. After the engine warms up and the oil pressure is stable, the lifter begins to get enough oil and quiets down. Try changing your oil and use a lighter weight oil like 10/W/30. After 2500 miles return to your former vescosity oil.

noise after intake gasket replacment. becomes noisy after engine reaches normal operating temp.
had oil change and mech checked retorqed lifters
After reading my final answer I don't think they read my orginal problem along with two addional comments. The reason I had intake gasket change was do to leaking, so that cover 70% of that text solution. I never said anything about white smoke. I already said we changed and used lucas. This last solution I feel like they didn't read any of my comments. I feel like I wasted my time and money. Don't bother with anymore solution.
