Audi A6 2001 quattro 2.8 mysterious over heating

Hi Friends, The car is : A6 2001 quattro 2.8L automatic The car has 140 000 KM on it. The engine started overheating and there was coolant leak. I changed coolant reservoir and the radiator. It still overheats and when it heats too much then I off the engine and I see and hear the water pump kicking.. The coolant goes down the reservoir through the water pump. Also when I put full heat in the car it's as cold as the AC. The engine fan works perfectly.. When the car heats up the steering wheel becomes very hard to turn and control. I sent it to an Audi specialist and he is telling me that he cannot tell the exact problem for the overheating but if he has to change the water pump and thermostat and timing belt he's got to remove whole engine front and the cost will near 1000$. I told the mechanic to change the thermostat first, if that's it then it would save me lot of money.

Update: The mechanic is telling me to change the whole engine .. so 1000$ for engine and around 1500$ for labour and tools.

OK, it's a sealed system and has to be bled. The bleed screw is hidden. Roll this video to around 7 minutes. Stay away from those scammers!

SOURCE: Overheating, low fuel efficiency, fuel smell in cabin

if your over heating take thermostat OUT first before u buy anything else. I bought 3 thermostats at parts store all bad. i think the design is very restrictive especially if you put crack sealer in rad. like bars leak

Why *** i need to change cam belt and tensioner at rhe same time? is it a must

You buy a complete kit

That includes the water pump, timing belt, all
idler pulley's ,so you don't have to go back
there when the water pump fails

Just like you replace brake hardware, sometimes,
as it rusts, wears & heat cycles

You do your belt at 140,000 km (84,000 miles) about
every 7 years (12,000 per year)

I need to know where the thermostat is located for the Audi A8 V8 4.2 Quattro Automatic 2006

The thermostat is located in front of the engine, between V cylinder banks, for Audi A8 V8 4.2 Quattro Automatic. See pictures below:

Remove the thermostat housing (2 bolts) and the old thermostat. Note the orientation of the old thermostat (vent valve facing UP). Clean both thermostat housing and block surfaces and remove all traces of old gasket material. Install the new thermostat vent valve facing UP.

Please do rate my response. Thanks!

1996 Audi A4 Quattro has a noisy rear differential

It's the wheel bearing. Guaranteed. Just replaced mine. Go to Audiworld tech articles for step by step instructions on how to test the wheel bearings. They must have been put in wrong last time or they just went out again.

My Audi 98 2. 8l car is always overheating

Hi Counchcharles
Your service displays have to be reset with the correct electronic equipment....When you chage the engine oil the computer management system will have to be told...thats the job of the scanner....go to a service centre and have them cancel it for you.
The over heating problem is nothing to do with that though.....Check to see if you have any leakage....open the pressure cap only when the engine is cold....best is first thing before start up in the morning....check to see if you need topping up....if you do, it'll mean you have a leakage....Check the entire radiator and hoses where they go from the rad into the engine and ventilation system for stains from the coolant....If you can't find any look at the thermostat....If you remove it, replace with anew unit, do not dis-guard it also check the pressure cap and if needs be replace....Good luck
