Caravan trailer wiring

I have a factory installed trailer hitch and 7 pin wiring harness installed on my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. I have power to the plug but when I hook up my trailer none of the lights work. When I attach the trailer to another vehicle everything works fine. Have you ever heard of this problem.

Trailers ground themselves through the ball of the trailer, so no additional wiring needed there. Its runs through the white wire on the trailer side of the harness. It gets bolted to the trailer frame with a self tapping screw.

It's a small minivan why are you using a 7 plug wire. My guess it's wired up wrong. Be sure to check your not trying to haul a trailer that's to heavy for your van to tow safely. 4 wires would be all your van should have. 7 plug harness are for trucks with electric brakes and made to tow over 5k pounds. Your van may only be rated to tow 1500 pounds.

There should be a tail light connection behind the left light assembly, where the harness adapter plugs in.

If you are going from a 4 pin on your trailer to the 7 pin on the truck. You need to go to parts store or a department store (ex Wal Mart) and look in trailer section and find the adapter. Thats what I did. Also Remember if your lights don't work on trailer, check the plug to make sure its tight or check the fuse under your drivers side rear seat for that fuse box.

Sounds like the converter is bad. Go to http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx and check the testing section. Hope this helps.

4 pin connector on my 09 caravan shows no power to any of the 3 light pins. This worked last time I used the trailer 6 months ago but now...........nada.

I also had the same problem with my 2008 grand caravan. It turned out to be a bad ground wire. A real difficult thing to find. You just might want to replace all of the wires or better still replace the entire harness it will save you a lot of trouble

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan that has a hitch but no light connection. My trailer has a universal 4 way connector. I cannot find anywhere to tap into the wiring of the van to splice the wires.

check etrailer.com. they have a harness that connects to the taillights and even an installation video. the access and wiring are through the jack storage compartment on the drivers side.

Electrical towing wiring problem on Grand Caravan 2006

Well the BEST way to fix that is take the Van AND Trailer to the dealer and make them check it over and get it working. Sounds like they screwed up., and are trying to blame the trailer. The 4 pins are easy to check Running lights, Left turn, Right turn and Ground. I suspect the 7 pin is wired wrong. I dont know why they put a 7 pin wiring plug on? Those are used for largeer trailers that need a battery feed and electric brakes

I need the wiring code for a 2008 grand caravan so I can install a trailer hitch. How can I get this info?

You can buy an adapter that will go in between your rear lights & main harness under van at connector, that will allow you to hook it up correctly. If it's a small trailer & no brakes on it, you may get a way with a flat 4 connection, provided your signals & brakes light use same bulb, otherwise you will need a small inline converter wired in also. Get back if you need more clarification. If only flat 4 and no brakes req'd, you can splice in to wires inside rear hatch that go to tailights. You decide & let me know if you need help. P.S. All you need is a test light (12v) and some connectors.
