Squeaky noise when applying breaks

When I apply my breaks, a squeaky noise appears. My break pads are fine. Could it be down to dust???? How do I stop it??? My break pads look fine and dust was cleaned. Breaks are still squeaking. Every so often there is a soft clunk when I take foot off brake to the gas. Help!

Semi-metallic pads can cause noise from glazing over if you are too rough on them, or a crappy pad composition. get some BG brand STOP SQUEAL and apply it to the pads. clears it right up

Knocking noise when coasting. Seems to stop when applying the brakes.

This could be the break pad retaining springs. If the caliper assembly leaves a gap for the break pads they will make noise. Remove the wheel and look to see if the brake pads have excess room.

I drive a 2005 Toyota Corolla and about 3 months ago I had the brake pads changed and replaced them w/ ceramic. Now, after a few stops, they make a noticable grinding noise when I apply the brakes. Is...

It is never normal for your brakes to "grind". A lil squeaky, not so bad. Grinding, not so good. I would take it back to whoever replaced them and have them checked. Ceramic pads are better pads because the stop you better and last longer than matallic pads, and the also create less dust, but they should not be grinding. It could be a sign of improper installation or a sign of bad or worn rotors. Definately have it checked out.

I test drove 2009 hyundai accent recently. car has 48000 miles already. Some squeaky noise is coming when you apply the break? I am thinking of buying this car. Is this a serious problem?

Hi, squeaky brakes can be as simple as dust from the brake pads ( this can be solved by washing the brakes with a hose pipe quite easy if it has alloy wheels.
If its a constant noise the brake pads could be due for changing which could be normal for that amount of miles( May also need discs ).
I would`nt let that stop you buying the car as they are a good car
I hope i have set your mind at rest

1996 saturn sl1 stick

take the wheel and drum off the back and check that the shoes are not worn out on the edges..what happens is the end wears off first but as pressure is applied the shoe moves to where there is some pad left..severe brake dust can do it too. get the brakes checked as soon as you can.to clean and adjust the rear brakes is not that expensive.

A noise from wheel appear once a while. squeaky. i bought it 2006.

to clean the brake rotors, stop a few times with the car in neutral instead of drive.
this will use the brake pads instead of the regenerative braking and reduce squeal.

Brakes are making loud grinding noise when slowing down to stop or on an incline

Ok, it could be a few things, 1. bad break caliper. 2. if you have ceramic breaks, it could be a cracked brake pad, and if they are not ceramic they can still be cracked. 3. if you drive a lot then it could be that you need new breaks again.. 4. also have your back breaks checked along with the front ones..

2002 tahoe breaks lock up during driving

It sounds like the rear calipers are bad. Raise the rear wheels and see if you can turn the tires. If you can't, open the bleeder. If you still can't replace the caliper. If you can turn the wheel after you open the bleeder, replace the brake hose to that wheel.

Noise while applying brakes or turn left / right

Sounds like the break rotors are warped. At this point its best to do a break job, chanses are the calipers are the problem not releasing and creating heat, or break lines are not returning fluid back to resavor witch in turn warp the rotors. Run the whole gamet on the breaks. New rotors, New calipers, New pads, and New rubber break lines to calipers. And you will solve your break problem.

Squeaky noise when applying breaks

sometimes if they get a glaze effect they will glaze up causing squeaks. Are they very shiny? if so they are glazed. Also are they factory pads or aftermarket do you know? Metallic pads almost always will give off a little squeak. If you know how to take off wheel and caliper you can remove the rotors and bring them into parts store and they can turn them real quick for you for about 20-30 for both of them. Just do the fronts. if you say your pads are fine leave them alone and just reuse them. This will help renew the brakes alittle but when you do replace pads in future always replace rotors as well dont turn them with new pads. and if you can, go with ceramic pads. less likely to squeal but just for a few hundred miles untill break in is over.

Toyota Camry 2000, break problem inconsistent

Could be a number of things. A lot of times the ABS sensors at the wheels get dirty. This is due to them being magnetic and a lot of brake pads are semi metallic so the dust sticks to the sensors and makes them fuction a little weird. Have someone clean the sensors. I try to pressure wash them everytime I wash the car. Hope this helps.
