You'll need someone to scan the computer for trouble codes to proceed with testing.

Check all your ground points. The brake lights and cruise may be grounded to the same spot. Re-check the cruise fuse and brake/tail light fuses.

Do a back pressure test on the exhaust system , partially clogged catalytic converter ? Have a qualified repair shop hook up a professional scan tool an view engine data.

How long since a tune-up? Check fuel--spark when problem is ongoing.
I always check for codes even if the lite isn't on. Of course if the mil doesn't work that presents a problem. The procedure below for using the mil to check codes.

I'll try to help you out. First, try and get the check engine light codes. You can do this yourself in the car.

With the car off:

Put the key in the ignition.

Turn it to the "ON" position (don't crank), then off, on, off on.

Then leave it in the ON position, and a code should come up in the odometer reading.

You should complete the cycle in under 5 seconds.

u have a computer controlled sensor working or reading out of normal range, need to go get a computer scan of failure codes, make sure u write them down if any transmission codes r present repair first engine codes then trans. codes
