Dashboard Lights not working

Hi, today all of my dashboard lights suddenly stopped working.  When I turn off the engine and restart, they sometimes go back on for a minute or so and then turn off again -- sometimes they don't turn on at all.  Headlights, engine, radio, blinkers seem to work (not sure about the tail lights).  This happened just a few hours after I got my car washed (inside and out) -- I wonder if this is more than a coincidence. From reading forums about dashboard/tail light fuse problems, I got the idea that perhaps there's a wire in the back of the matrix that could have become crimped...? Is this something to look for?  How do I find it?  Or where would I look for a fuse to determine if that is the problem?  And how will I know if the fuse is ok or not??  I don't think my schedule will allow me to take my car to a mechanic for a few more days so I'd appreciate any ideas you can offer to me so that I can better understand what the problem might be.  Thanks!

I fixed the problem by basically jiggling the wires in the back left trunk compartment. there's a plastic door, you open it and there's a bundle of wires. the door was ajar, so I closed it all the way and somehow that put the wires back where they were supposed to be. Haven't had trouble with the dashboard lights for 8 months...good luck!

I experienced the same after a car detail (inside and outside) exercise. I checked this and another forum. In my case the issue was that the Dimmer dial (to the left of the dashboard panel) had been turned OFF and it was depending on the auto-lights. Whenever I moved from Parking to R or D gears, the dashboards would go off. After I set the Dimmer back to some setting (Full), the dashboard lights stayed ON as before. I did not have to play around with any fuses. Looks like the dial was turned to off position during the inside cleaning.

This just saved me a bunch of heartache. The wife told me her dash lights just quit working out of the blue, so I started checking fuses... couldn't find a bad one. Checked here. Thought surely it couldn't be... But it was. Dimmer switch had it turned off.

I am having the same propblem and I've changed the fuse but still the dash board and the tail lights are not working. The Tail Lights only work if I hit the brakes and for signaling but not for when the headlights turn on like they are supposed to. and everytime I put in a new fuse for the Tail it blow out right away. Were is the wire that is causing the fuse to short at?

Please you need not trouble yourself so much. When you open the fuse on the reverse of the cover there are inscriptions that tells you what fuse is for what. Then change the particular fuse.

Or replace all the fuses you've got. it does not cost much.

Why is scania not starting, dashboard no display but vehicle cranking

For the dashboard check you fuses. Sometimes it is that easy.
You will need to repair the dashboard lights to find out if there are any warning lights showing. We're there any warning lights before the dashboard lights stopped working?
What exactly does it do when you crank the engine? Just crank? Crank, try then stall?
Have you had it plugged into a diagnostic scanner to check if it's a faulty sensor?

1998 Ford Escort dashboard warning lights and gauges not working.

Sounds like possibly the ignition switch is going out. Try jiggling the key in the ignition in the on position and see if your lights come back on.

Dashboard on Honda Civic 2002 not working

There is 2 harnesses near the bottom of the steering column that you should check. Also change the block fuses in fuse box.

1996 Olds Achieva Engine cuts out

Take both cables of the battery and clean them with a wire brush, reinstall them making sure those little 5/16 hex bolts are nice and tight in the battery. Trace the battery ground cable back to where it bolts to the engine block, make sure it is very clean and tight. There should be a body ground somewhere, this is a conductor between the engine block and the metal body part of the engine compartment- clean and tight as well. If you can't find the body ground, make one.
Now get on your hands and knees and inspect behind both front kick panels and under the dashboard valence, inside the car. You are looking for single or clusters of brown or black wires that are bolted to the body inside the car. Clean and tight for these as well. I promise, this is where your problem lies, but I'm betting on loose battery terminals right now.
