Blowing fuses My vehicle keeps blowing fuses for all inside lights, including driving console, and the lighter/charging port. I took it to a mechanic that told me he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it but I need to take it to an electrician! Please help me?

Found the problem, it was a inline fuse behind the dash!

  • milespeed Apr 27, 2014

excellent... do you know what that inline fuse was protecting.. was it factory or aftermarket? like for a radio or other add on device or stock in line fuse for circuit normal on vehicle ? thanx for the update ~!

The lighter circuit is a prime suspect.. often shorting out due to objects getting in there or liquids... inspect and repair as necessary that area first

Testimonial: "It's not the lighter because I use that to string up an external light to show the panel! You said start there so now where?"

SOURCE: My buick 2003 lesabre keeps blowing the 10 amp.

Thinking of buying a new car? Ha-ha. Not a good idea, fuse blowing for a reason & adding a higher amp fuse could start a fire. How long do they stay on, long enough to see if one is dimmer or brighter than the rest? Might have to do the process of elimination, or to save fuses, pull all the ones out that are easy to get out & try it, if o.k. start replacing one at a time until fuse blow & you find the culprit.

Why dose my fuse keep burning the one ander the hood

If fuse keep blowing up, there is a short on the wiring for that particular fuse.
Check the cover on that fuse box and it will normally tell you what number that particular fuse location.
Check your manual of your vehicle and it will tell you what device/comporent is connected to that fuse. Once you figure out what device/component is connected to that fuse then you can start your diagnosis on that particular device/component.

For example, there is one particular fix I've done which the fuse keeps blowing.
I've checked the location of the fuse and check the users manual for that particular fuse and it indicates a cigarette lighter. I've check the cigarette lighter and there was a coin stuck inside the hole which causes the new fuse to blow. Once the coin was removed, the fuse did not blow anymore.

My interior light fuse (20A) keeps blowing on Acura RL 2000 This also afffects my stereo - I had a mechanic check and they could not find an electricas short so they said it was likely my cig lighter...

Does the fuse blow when you don't have anything plugged into the cigarette lighter? Do you have more than one cigarette/utility port? They are usually on different fuses.

If it turns out that is the problem you can install a separate outlet just for the tape on a higher rated fuse

Fuse Keeps Blowing

maybe a bad lighter socket or wires in the back of it.
You don't have to remove the center console to check the cigarette lighter electrical connection. Just pluck the base out of the hole and you will know if it is connected properly back there ....Or replace it. Not big bucks at all :)

2009 Saturn aura: cigarette lighters/power ports

You likely have a blown fuse. I have heard using the cigarette lighter for charging your cell phone can blow the fuse - was told to use the charger inside the center console for charging my cell phone.

My lighter on the console and inside the console are not working-what should I do? I cannot charge my cell phone either.

Usually the fuse blows because of faulty cell phone chargers. Check the fuse and change it if necessary and also check your charger for your cell phone. It might be blowing those fuses!
