I suggest you to do an ecm diagnostic to see if you have any codes stored. After that you can go from there, you might have an issue with the theft system.
good luck.

SOURCE: AUDI A4 2.4 V6 1999 Low power in reverse and engine surges

Check for a vaccuum leak around the engine (specifically the PCV line). You can usually hear a hissing sound if you listen closely. The leak will not allow proper intake when idling, hence the nearly dying part. More air is allowed in while throttling so it isn't as noticeable. You can trace the vaccuum lines from the intake manifold. If you can't find it, you can follow your HVAC lines, they are fed from the same spot.

If you take it to a mechanic who can recognize it, it is a relatively inexpensive repair. Usually just labor to tighten up the hoses.

SOURCE: clifford immobiliser unlocks doors, does not start car

Find where your fuel pump relay is and check for power there. Most alarm tech's and alarm system dis engages the fuel pump at there relay's.

Simple things to check is the fuse first then go for the relay and if everything there is working properly, it could be your alarm may have gone bad or your fuel pump it self.

Good luck and hope this helps

SOURCE: car won't start without adding gas to air intake then won't idle

Check the fuel filter, you may have clogged it when you filled the tank.

Starting the car is a breeze, it starts and idles in park like it should. Once put into gear the engine shakes and almost stalls even accelarating. Once you get up to about 45mph it runs fine. Any ideas?

this is your throttle control senson. it needs to be replaced. It should be located on the throttle body assembly (carborator) and will have a wire clip attached to it and will be located right by the throttle cables.

My car will start but will not idle; what is wrong It starts and will run as long as I press the accelarator. Once I remove my foot from the accelarator it stops running.

Sounds like the Idle Air Control valve is stuck. The best course of action is to just replace it since they aren't usually repairable. Also check to make sure that all the wires connected to it are not chewed up and have power with the key in run.

The IAC is the cylindrical looking unit on the side of the throttle body with a 2 wire plug on it.

All you need to do is get the throttle motor/body re-adapted, this can be done by audi, sometimes if you were to drive the vehicle 30 miles it will re-adapt itself but as its not idling, this can be difficult

Dies after 1,000 rpms

Try this - disconnect the battery again for 30 minutes. Then reconnect it. Turn the key to full electrical power but don't crank the engine. You may hear a humming sound from the top rear center of the engine. This is the throttle body aligning itself. When the humming stops, you can start the car. You'll still have some stumbling for as much as a week, but it'll get better each day. If the throttle body alignment (TBA) isn't done, it can really mess up the driveability of the car.

Audi 1999 a4 1.8 turbo

First thing is to disconnect the battery again, wait a minute or two, then hook it back up. Put the key in the ignition, turn it to full electrical power, but don't start it. If you have the hood open, you may hear a humming from the engine - this is the throttle body being aligned by the computer. This will help with driveability. You may need up to a week for the car to fully sort itself out though - it seems to vary widely from car to car.

Don't forget to reprogram your one-touch windows too. For each one that has one-touch down, hold the button down until the window goes fully down, then release the button and quickly press and release it again. Then hold the button until it goes all the way up, release, press up and release again. This reprograms the one-touch up feature.
