Marion, Check links below for proper transmission fluid to use in your application. Warning on the use of incorrect transmission fluids.
Info. below provided by assassin of The Mitsubishi Pajero Owners Club
Many people are using the incorrect specification in auto transmission systems requiring Dia Queen SP III transmission fluids, this is due to confusion arising from the fact that many people believe DEXRON III is suitable, IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR MITSUBISHI AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS requiring SP III.
Surely, you can use a Dexron II transmission fluid but I would recommend you get the Dexron III instead. In actual fact, always use Dexron III ATF for better efficiency of your vehicle.
Vehicle: Fluid Type Specifications
System Specifications
Automatic Transaxle Capacity (Drain & Refill) ............................................................................................................................... up to 3.5L (3.7 US qt.)
Fluid Type ............................................................................................................................................................. ATF D-II or Dexron-III - Dexron II (r)
Hi,
Your owner's manual should specify the factory recommended fluid type. Sometimes the information is on the transmission dip stick.
Otherwise, I think you could use ATF DEXRON II or DEXRON III
I hope this helps...
You can drain and fill your trans. It will take 2.5 -3.0 quarts of DEX III trans fluid....goes in the fill tube. Or you can get said transmission flushed which changes all fluid including torque converter.....about 15 quarts. Way more thorough.
