bad distributor cap and or ignition wires.

Clean the throttle body and check or replace the idle control valve. Also check or test the throttle position sensor.

You might need to adjust the throttle positioning sensor or better yet only have to clean the connections.
Try cleaning all the connections you can find around the throttle body.
a quick shot of carb cleaner might also help while youre at it.

Possible EGR valve sticking open.

IAC idle air control motor, or, it could be the torque converter not unlocking properly.

try cleaning the throttle and replce the airfilter check for vacuum leaks

Your carb may need cleaning. I had the same problem with my Astra. If not then there is too much air getting into the engine.

I would think that it is one of two common problems...

1) The Idle Air Control (I.A.C.) valve may be bad.

2) The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (E.G.R.) valve may be stuck open.

You may need a skilled technician to determine which of the two possibilities is the problem.
