2004 Dodge Ram P0420 code. What could be causing this? My emissions are clean (all were within limits), and I just replaced all 4 oxygen sensors

This code is set when the catalytic converters are operating below tolerable efficiency limits. Basically, your catalytic converters are bad and are in need of replacement. You can have bad converters and still pass emissions, but your computer uses the oxygen sensors to determine how well they are working. If the readings are out of a set tolerance, the check engine light will illuminate and DTC P0420 will set. Clearing the code will turn the light out temporarily, but the next time the test is run, the light will come on again.
Hope this helps.

Check engine light on, replaced oxygen sensor before catalyst,

  • Water or corrosion in the connector
  • Loose terminals in the connector
  • Wiring burnt on exhaust components
  • Open or short in the wiring due to rubbing on engine components
  • Holes in exhaust allowing unmetered oxygen into exhaust system
  • Unmetered vacuum leak at the engine
  • Bad o2 sensor
  • Bad PCM

Trouble code 00P38 on a 2004 dodge 2500

Bank 1 sensor 2. Oxygen sensor heater control circuit high. You can try disconnecting at connector to sensor, clean connection good, disconnect battery for a minute or so & retry. If it comes back, I'd look at replacing heater solenoid.

Location of oxygen sensor

Under the truck, driver side exhaust pipe, there are 2, 1 is before the catalytic converter, the other is after. They screw into the side of the exhaust pipe.

I change my oxygen sensor yesterday and now is bad again engine light came on again they change the oxygen sensor again but the mechanic thinks something else might be going on but they not sure

Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you need to diagnosed and repaired it. The list of possible codes number in the hundreds. What codes were found to tell you the O2 sensor was bad? Remember there are more than one on your truck. If the underlying problem is not addressed the light will come back on. Excessive oil or engine coolant getting on the sensor can make it fail.

My 1996 Dodge Ram 5.2 is missing out and dies.

I had an oxygen sensor go out, and my dodge almost wouldnt run, i would reccomend replacing the bad oxygen sensor. The sensor could be telling the computer that there is to much fuel in the exhaust and cuts the fuel down enough to kill the engine, or vice-versa, Another thing could be the Intake air temperature sensor.

Engine diagnostic codes

I don't have a dodge ram but the codes for the dodge vehicles where pretty much the same. For my intrepid the codes read for the following numbers

12 - Problem with battery connection (This usually happens if you disconnect the battery)
21 - Problem with the oxygen sensor circuit
52 - Oxygen Sensor signal input indicates rich mixture during engine operation.

It sounds like you may need to change an oxygen sensor. Hope this helps.

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7l

Code p0113 is for the intake air temp sensor. It probably did not get plugged in during the egnine replacement. That will not cuase it not to idle. I need more information for that concern.
