A few weeks ago the check guages light started coming on, then the battery started overcharing. I have replaced the alternator and battery but it is still doing the same thing. any suggestions?
2001 dodge ram 1500 - manual transmission.....battery overcharging, hear bearly audible whirring pitched noise under hood on passenger side..sounds like a bad bearing. Have replace the alternator, changed some belts, tuned up..yet nothing changed.
Overcharge occurs only at speeds over 55 mph. light goes off at lower speed. Occurs only when I hear the high pitched noise mentioned above on startup. If I start truck and do not hear the noise, I never get the overcharge battery light, regardless of speed. 2001 dodge ram 1500 - manual transmission.....battery overcharging, hear bearly audible whirring pitched noise under hood on passenger side..sounds like a bad bearing. Hi Les, I;m glad to help. There is an fusible link that runs off the battery cable pull on it and see if it comes apart, if it does replace it and see if everything is working properly. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Les.
i would check the battery first. when the vehicle is not running the battery should have at least 11 volts, if not then the battery would be bad. when the vehicle is running, it should have at least 13.5 volts. a real good charging system would have close to 14 volts. if you do not find that the battery is bad and you are able to start your vehicle check the battery to see if it has the min. of 13.5 volts. if the voltage is dropping, then you have a bad alternator.
I would start with the basic's. Check and make sure good connection at both terminals. Make sure battery is fully charged. Make sure all ground wire's from negative terminal to truck frame are snug. Recently had this same problem a week ago on friends truck it was also a 94 ram. It was just a ground wire from battery to frame. After that check the fuses and relays. Good Luck.
first of all, check voltage at battery car off should read at least 12.5 to 13 volts. now start car. at battery it should read at least 14 volts, if lower then 14 volts check alternator.
If you are running any extra systems, ie amps, subs, high watt speakers, etc. etc. you may need to get a better batter, like the blue. or yellow top one. check with auto zone.
gas gauge is broken wire on or near tank.. or its a big tank an could take more to regastir..
dont start, could be fuel pump, or feul pump relay,
brakes, one of the pads prob fell off an is bouncing around in there, happens all the time..
Check all fuses under hood and on end of dash don't just look test them, 95 dodges had a recall on key switch burning out, bad connector in column and to relay under dash, check all those options
what is the pcm.
