Need to re paint my grille

Spray painted my grille a while ago and it's starting to chip. Although I sprayed the grille while it was still attached to the car, this time I would like to do it the right way. Any suggestions?

Automotive paints require a good clean and well prepared surface like light waterpaper sanding to remove any oily or fatty resedu and the correct undercoat before applying a new coatings otherwise it will not last chipping or peeling will occur.

SOURCE: Paint issues with 2007 Outlander

There probably a whole batch of them from the factory that weren't prepped right for the final coat... I think it's a factory error. I would complain to the dealer and the company. I don't think they use any cheaper paint, and essentially use the same techniques in painting the vehicles.

SOURCE: location of colour code on 2003 toyota rav 4 chassis/body

Toyota paint codes are can usually be found either under the hood or on the passenger/drivers side door jamb. Most Toyota paint codes are 3 digits long.
If you can't find your color code on the car your local Toyota dealership (parts department) will be able to tell you your code from your registration or chasis number...
Good luck..i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

Remove Spray Paint Over Spray on Vehicle

Could try grim and wax remover/prep for auto bodies. Auto stores have it. Then polish/ wax the spot.

Noise

Our wheel wells have all been plastic for years..and amplify sound of road ..wheels..suspension components etc..just like an ovation guitar..
$30 ..SOLUTION>>..spray chip stop fibrated (sound deadening) tar/rubber spray onto the plastic wheel wells..do the same with firewall..and under side of vehicle..this will also protect from chip damage and rust..a sound tech with the movie industry in Toronto could not believe the dramatic effect..get about 3 cans from Canadian Tire in Canada or your auto stuff place near u..
NOTE>>.. wear plastic glove and old shirt to keep spray off your fingers and arms..
This works for all vehicles and is about the cheapest upgrade one can perform...be careful of paint..stuff rubs off/or use cleaning fluid..use piece of cardboard to keep spray off stuff you do not want to spray ..like paint/tires/muffler..
ps Shell gas rocks (good mileage/power/cleaning..nitrogen enriched..)
Esso gas ..has a lot of sulphur..cabbies in Toronto say not as much mileage
and dirties engine up some..bob

Why is my car's green paint fading

Sun breaks down or crystallizes some of the pigments and plastic compounds in the paint. (And plastic headlights) Melt everything back together with a single quick swipe or spray of mild enamel or lacquer thinner with 2 to 5% lacquer or enamel clear. Even clear nail polish in 95% thinner can restore some shine, but you can't keep rubbing, it will all soften into a total mess. If you don't want to pay a shop to re-clear or paint your car, just buy a can of clear glossy spray and spray it into a jar and mix a ton of thinner into it. Dab a rag into it and apply it on a hidden part of your paint.

What soluntion is v best for my 2000 jeep grand cherokee lorado...i'm having problems with the low door panels as far dicoloring

a great fix for this problem is to take the Jeep to a ' Good ' auto paint shop and have them prep and paint the panels with a good quality anti-fade paint. make sure the paint shop warranties their work against chips and flaking. make sure they are going to use a good quality paint and primer.
this should only cost about 150.00 to 200.00 dollars at a good paint shop, with a turn around time of about 1 1/2 days.
now if you want to avoid that cost -- you can go down to your local auto parts store and buy a spray paint that works on plastics--- you will need to prep, primer and spray the panels following the instructions on the can -- the spray paint that they make these days come in many shades and hold up very well to the weather and sun,,just mask off the Jeep very well so you don't get over spray on the rest of the vehicle. make sure you keep one of the empty spray cans or a half full can around for future color match application. the cost of the spray paint can vary on quality and maker, usually around 8.00 to 16.00 dollars per can,, and primer and other supplies should run you around 30.00 more dollars. call around and shop around and ask lots of questions --- stop buy your local auto paint shop and ask them for a free estimate,, you might find a place that will do it even cheaper then I had quoted above (?).
good luck,

What is the best way to paint a hard top. It's faded and has a few minor chips. Can I just spray it or do I need to prepare it in some way prior to the paint going on?

You should soak it with a mild degreaser & scub it with a brush then pressure wash it & let it dry completely where there is no posibility of contaminants getting on it & then mask off the windows & paint away. your lucky. these are the easiest things to paint. just be sure to use a good quality paint & let it cure @ least a week before washing.

Same problem with grill bubbling what to do 2004 niss murano

I've decided to "black" mine out with a high gloss black. First I'm going to take the grill off & see if I can use airplane paint remover on a small area to remove the coating that is bubbling.

If so, then i'll primer the surface & repaint it as is since it should be smooth after the remover works and I scrape it down and wash it clean.

You could then leave it once the clearcoat is removed, re-coat it with clearcoat, or paint it any color, even to match. Automotive spray paint is available at auto-parts stores for this type of material, just get the right can of spray paint.

If I find the paint remover won't work without hurting the actual grill, I'll use some fine grit sandpaper and prep the surface, then primer it and paint it high gloss black. Color choice is optional of course!

Maybe this will help.

I want to know how to camouflage a jeep the best

Knowing how to paint a Jeep in camo patterns means you can hide your Jeep in the woods, marshy areas or in open fields without it being easily seen. Using Mossy Oak's Shadow Grass pattern, paint your Jeep with natural-looking shadows and grass blades. The 3-D look of this pattern allows you to easily hide your Jeep from water fowl, doves, deer and big game.

Things You'll Need:
  • Sandpaper (120 and 800 grit)
  • Wax and grease remover
  • Lint-free towel
  • Camo stencil
  • Masking tape
  • Masking paper
  • Respirator mask
  • Automotive primer
  • Automotive paint (black, gray, light tan and brown)
  • Automotive clear coat
  1. Sand the surface of the Jeep with 120-grit sandpaper until the surface is dull. You can use a dual-action sander for this step to speed the process. This removes the top clear coat and prepares the surface for primer. Primer won't stick to a shiny surface.
  2. Mask off areas of the Jeep that won't be painted, such as the windows, tires and passenger area of the Jeep. Wipe the surface with wax and grease remover and a lint-free towel.
  3. Spray primer on the Jeep in three thin coats. Allow each coat to dry completely. Once the primer is dry, use 800-grit sandpaper to sand the top layer of primer until smooth. This leaves a smooth surface for the paint. Wipe again with wax and grease remover and a lint-free towel.
  4. Paint a thin base coat of gray on the Jeep. Cover all of the primered areas on the Jeep so that no primer can be seen. Allow the paint to dry.
  5. Go over the Jeep with brown paint, spraying small areas of brown paint in no particular pattern. The finished effect should look like the Jeep is equally painted gray and tan. Hold the first stencil against the Jeep and use black paint to fill it in. Move the stencil over and paint again. Start at the front of the Jeep and work towards the rear.
  6. Move on to the next stencil and use light tan paint to spray the grass pattern. The grass should start at the bottom of the Jeep and reach up towards the top. For longer grass, don't spray the tops of the grass but instead move the pattern up, spray the stems longer and then spray the tops, making the grass stems long. Repeat this around the Jeep and across the hood. Go back over the grass stems with black paint, lightly spraying a few of the stems to give them a shadow look.
  7. Finish by spraying three coats of clear coat paint onto the painted areas of the Jeep. This protects the paint from UV rays and keep the camo pattern looking good.

Tips & Warnings
  • Paint is best applied using a paint spray gun and air compressor, but canned spray paint will work.
  • Never sand or spray primer or paint without using a painter's respirator mask.
