My 1999 saturn sw2 over heats easily because my engine cooling fan won't turn on ever. I checked the fan motor to make sure it works, no problem there.

I have the same problem I but mine is a 95 sw2 I put a new fan relay and sensor and still no fan but as long as i dont stop for too long it stays cool for now.

I have the same problem also. It overheats when it is sitting in traffic alot. I just replaced the themostat thinking that was the problem and then realized the fan wasn't turning on at all. I checked the fuses and haven't gotten any further yet.

I have a 99 saturn sl, my engine fan keeps going out cant pass service light on

I believe that the reason that your fan is staying on,and causing the fuse or fan motor to go out,is because you have an overheating problem. Which could be several things....water pump, radiator, thermostat,or blown head gasket.I would have the whole cooling system checked first. Secondly, where are you buying the fan motors at?

Electric cooling fan does not come when the engine starts to heat up

There could be one of several posibilites
1-bad fan
2-bad connection to the fan
3-bad tenp sensor
4-system could have a relay or fuse problem

Not sure if radiator fans are working, car overheating. which fuse do I check?

LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ON DRIVER SIDE FOR FUSE BOX.LOOK ON FUSE BOX COVER IT HAS LOCATION FOR FUSES AND RELAYS.MOST TIME PROBLEM WITH COOLING FAN CIRCUIT WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BAD ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR WILL CAUSE COOLANT FANS NOT TO TURN CAUSE OVERHEATING. ON.REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP SEE IF STOP OVER HEATING. IF ALL LOOKS GOOD HOTWIRE COOLANT FANS MAKE SURE FAN MOTORS ARE GOOD AND NO SHORTS AT FAN CONNECTOR WIRES.

Coolant system

The car overheats because the fan system is not working. The engine coolant sensor tells the computer to turn on the fan when it gets hot and also sends temperature readings through the computer to the heat gauge. Try turning the AC on if you have it--it should immediately start the cooling fan. If nothing, check the fan fuse and relay. It's also possible that the fan motor is frozen due to bad bearings. Try replacing the coolant temperature sensor to see if that restores the gauge readings. Hope some of this helps!

My 93 Saturn SW2 begins to overheat when idling after driving. I can cool the engine by turning on the AC. Is this a thermostat problem? Or what else may be wrong?

Sounds like a relay or fuse problem, at worst it's your fan #1 has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Before replacing anything, check all your fuses, relay, wire leads and harness at the fan.
Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

Heat/air blower faded in and out...sort of like ooooooooooh-saaaaaaah. Then nada, zip, nuttin. Fuse and relay both ok. Something to check on motor for easy fix or total replacement? 97 Sataurn SW2

If the blower motor relay, fuse, and switch have voltage to them, check to see if there is voltage at the blower motor itself with the fan switch on. If not, trace back to switch for fault. If there is voltage at the motor, replace the blower motor/fan assembly.

MY MOM OWNS A 2001 SATURN SW2 WAGON THATS BEEN OVERHEATING ON HER.I CHANGED THE THERMASTAT AND RES CAP. CAN YOU POINT ME IN THE RIGHT WAY

You need to completely check the engine over (from top and bottom) for any signs of leaks. Even a drop a minute can quickly drain the system and becomes much faster when under pressure. Check electric cooling fan(s) to make sure at least one is coming on when engine becomes hot (just before overheat) Fan should also be on with A/C use at all times.
Make sure nothing is stuck in front of the radiator (plastic bags etc) and that there is no debris built up between radiator and A/C condenser.Make sure that when you re-filled the system you did so with the heater on high so air in system was allowed to purge. Any persistent white smoke at tailpipe may be from a bad cylinder head gasket and will require professional diagnosis and repair.
